Bob loses saving throw vs. shiny with a penalty of -5. Bob takes 2d8 damage to the credit card. ~ Charles Stross
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Charles Stross
Augustine, who assumed that Genesis 1 was chapter 1 in a book that contained the literal words of God, and that Genesis 2 was the second chapter in the same book, put the two chapters together and read the latter as a sequel. Genesis 2, he assumed, described the fall from the perfection and original goodness of creation depicted in chapter 1. So almost inevitably the Christian scriptures from the fourth century on were interpreted against the background of this (mis) understanding.

The primary trouble with this theory was that by the fourth century of the Common Era there were no Jews to speak of left in the Christian movement, and therefore the only readers and interpreters of the ancient Hebrew myths were Gentiles, who had no idea what these stories originally meant. Consequently, they interpreted them as perfection established by God in chapter 1, followed by perfection ruined by human beings in chapter 2. Why was that a problem? Well I, for one, have never known a Jewish scripture scholar to treat the Garden of Eden story in the same way that Gentiles treat it. Jews tend to see this story not as a narrative about sin entering the world, but as a parable about the birth of self-consciousness. It is, for the Jews, not a fall into sin, but a step into humanity. It is the birth of a new relationship with God, changing from master-servant to interdependent cooperation. The forbidden fruit was not from an apple tree, as so many who don't bother to read the text seem ~ John Shelby Spong
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by John Shelby Spong
I know women at work who don't talk about having a baby because they don't want to upset the apple cart, but unless people know what the problems are, why should they engage with it? ~ Tamsin Greig
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Tamsin Greig
It was between the ages of 14 and 20 and I started off not eating at all, maybe an apple a day. ~ Torrie Wilson
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Torrie Wilson
Apple has a complex suite of proprietary technologies, both in hardware (like superior touchscreen materials) and software (like touchscreen interfaces purpose-designed for specific materials). ~ Peter Thiel
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Peter Thiel
It feels good to be fighting someone other than myself."

Jude "The Queen of Nothing (The Folk of the Air #3)". Apple Books. ~ Holly Black
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Holly Black
The cold, inconsiderate of persons, tingles your blood, benumbs your feet, freezes a man like an apple. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
I really believe I know why my designs were better than any other human being, but I don't want to take credit for starting Apple, for turning the world around or anything like that. ~ Steve Wozniak
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Steve Wozniak
I keep living this day like the next will never come. ~ Fiona Apple
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Fiona Apple
Adin looked up at Donte, who was then in the middle of taking a sip of his wine. He took in Donte's demonically beautiful face, long and angular, with its hooded eyes and high cheekbones, its wine-darkened lips. He watched as Donte savored it, imagining the warmth of the wine on the inside of Donte's mouth and against his tongue. He could almost feel it as it slid down the column of Donte's throat, teasing his Adam's apple into a subtle bob, and suddenly Adin was the wine, slipping down that throat, and just as inexplicably, Adin felt Donte's mouth on him everywhere at once, biting ... licking ... sucking. Adin's breath sped up; his skin warmed with the beginnings of a flush brought on by arousal. ~ Z.A. Maxfield
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Z.A. Maxfield
I wanted so much to step over and pick them up. Several times I tried to move my feet, but they seemed to be nailed to the floor. I knew the pups were mine, all mine, yet I couldn't move. My heart started aching like a drunk grasshopper. I tried to swallow and couldn't. My Adam's apple wouldn't work. One pup started my way. I held my breath. On he came until I felt a scratchy little foot on mine. The other pup followed. A warm puppy tongue caressed my sore foot. I heard the stationmaster say, 'They already know you.' I knelt down and gathered them in my arms. I buried my face between their wiggling bodies and cried. ~ Wilson Rawls
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Wilson Rawls
To blindly trust government is to automatically vest it with excessive power. To distrust government is simply to trust humanity - to trust in the ability of average people to peacefully, productively coexist without some official policing their every move. The State is merely another human institution - less creative than Microsoft, less reliable than Federal Express, less responsible than the average farmer husbanding his land, and less prudent than the average citizen spending his own paycheck. ~ James Bovard
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by James Bovard
People seem to be having these awesome sex lives and I'm just trying to find a life partner to go apple picking with. What's wrong with me? ~ Mindy Kaling
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Mindy Kaling
It's true/ I do imbue my blue unto myself/ I make it bitter, ~ Fiona Apple
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Fiona Apple
During this hour in the waking streets I felt at ease, at peace; my body, which I despised, operated like a machine. I was spaced out, the catchphrase my friends at school used to describe their first experiments with marijuana and booze. This buzzword perfectly described a picture in my mind of me, Alice, hovering just below the ceiling like a balloon and looking down at my own small bed where a big man lay heavily on a little girl I couldn't quite see or recognize. It wasn't me. I was spaced out on the ceiling.
I had that same spacey feeling when I cooked for my father, which I still did, though less often. I made omelettes, of course. I cracked a couple of eggs into a bowl, and as I reached for the butter dish, I always had an odd sensation in my hands and arms. My fingers prickled; it didn't feel like me but someone else cutting off a great chunk of greasy butter and putting it into the pan.
I'd add a large amount of salt - I knew what it did to your blood pressure, and I mumbled curses as I whisked the brew. When I poured the slop into the hot butter and shuffled the frying pan over the burner, it didn't look like my hand holding the frying-pan handle and I am sure it was someone else's eyes that watched the eggs bubble and brown. As I dropped two slices of wholemeal bread in the toaster, I would observe myself as if from across the room and, with tingling hands gripping the spatula, folded the omelette so it looked like an apple envelope. My alien hands wo ~ Alice Jamieson
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Alice Jamieson
The Macintosh having shipped, his next agenda was to turn the rest of Apple into the Mac group. He had perceived the rest of Apple wasn't as creative or motivated as the Mac team, and what you need to take over the company are managers, not innovators or technical people. ~ Andy Hertzfeld
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Andy Hertzfeld
Do you know much about Aaron Burr? There's a man, now, who is only damned and damned again in history and yet who had his parts. I have always designed writing something about him to show I did not stand in the jam of his vilifiers. I had a piece on him which should have gone into this book. You don't know (I guess I never told you) that when I was a lad, working in a lawyer's office, it fell to me to go over the river now and then with messages for Burr. Burr was very gentle--persuasive. He had a way of giving me a bit of fruit on these visits--an apple or a pear. I can see him clearly, still--his stateliness, gray hair, courtesy, consideration. ~ Walt Whitman
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Walt Whitman
What a healthy out-of-door appetite it takes to relish the apple of life, the apple of the world, then! ~ Henry David Thoreau
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Henry David Thoreau
I like to make pies. That's kind of my new obsession - peach, blueberry, apple, strawberry. I make a really good pumpkin pie with real pumpkin. ~ Morgan Saylor
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Morgan Saylor
Apples

Ma's apple blossoms
have turned to hard green balls.

To eat them now,
so tart,
would turn my mouth inside out,
would make my stomach groan.

But in just a couple months,
after the baby is born,
those apples will be ready
and we'll make pies
and sauce
and pudding
and dumplings
and cake
and cobbler
and have just plain apples to take to school
and slice with my pocket knife
and eat one juicy piece at a time
until my mouth is clean
and fresh
and my breath is nothing but apple.

June 1934 ~ Karen Hesse
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Karen Hesse
I got drunk when I was five. Everybody gets drunk before they're 21. ~ Fiona Apple
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Fiona Apple
The product of extraordinary wealth allied to a taste for the sumptuous. ~ R. W. Apple, Jr.
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by R. W. Apple, Jr.
Turn off your computer and go out of doors. Dig a large enough hole to transplant a mature apple tree. Nurture the tree, feed it, coddle it so that its fruit will be ample, bright and firm. Practice open-hand strikes against the rough bark of the trunk until it's time to harvest. Choose the champion of your apple crop, pluck it from the tree, and beat yourself about the face and tits with it until your mettle will suffice. ~ Nick Offerman
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Nick Offerman
The rise of Google, the rise of Facebook, the rise of Apple, I think are proof that there is a place for computer science as something that solves problems that people face every day. ~ Eric Schmidt
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Eric Schmidt
FBI creating a world where citizens rely on Apple to defend their rights, rather than the other way around. ~ Edward Snowden
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Edward Snowden
Adam did not want the apple for the apple's sake; he wanted it because it was forbidden. ~ Mark Twain
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Mark Twain
Nobody is strong enough to not be influenced. ~ Fiona Apple
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Fiona Apple
There were many things that led to the iPhone at Apple. We were searching for what to do after iPod that would make sense. ~ Phil Schiller
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Phil Schiller
My favorite computer of all time? The Apple II that got me started, of course. ~ Robert Scoble
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Robert Scoble
In a manner which matches the fortuity, if not the consequence, of Archimedes' bath and Newton's apple, the [3.6 million year old] fossil footprints were eventually noticed one evening in September 1976 by the paleontologist Andrew Hill, who fell while avoiding a ball of elephant dung hurled at him by the ecologist David Western. ~ John Reader
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by John Reader
Grover didn't say anything for awhile. Then, when I thought he was going to give me some deep philosophical comment to make me feel better, he said, Can I have your apple? ~ Rick Riordan
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Rick Riordan
No other technology company other than Apple has successfully transitioned their platform. It's almost never done, and it's way harder than you realize. This transition is where tech companies go to die. ~ Jim Balsillie
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Jim Balsillie
What if heaven is just a vast consciousness that the dead return to? And their assignment is to report on the experiences they collected during their time on earth? ... The spring mornings they woke up to a million birds singing their hearts out, and the summer afternoons with the swim towels hung over the porch rail, and the October air that smelled like wood smoke and apple cider, and the warm yellow windows of home when they came in on a snowy night. That's what my experience has been,' they say, and it gets folded in with the others
one more report on what living felt like. What it was like to be alive. ~ Anne Tyler
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Anne Tyler
Steve Jobs has been right twice. The first time we got Apple. The second time we got NeXT. The Macintosh ruled. NeXT tanked. Still, Jobs was right both times. ~ Gary Wolf
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Gary Wolf
If you're going to build something, don't build on land someone else already owns. You want your own land, your own domain, your own sovereignty. Trouble is, so much of the choice land - the land where all the people are - is already owned by someone else: By Google, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Yahoo, and Apple (in apps, anyway). ~ John Battelle
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by John Battelle
How we rolled up the carpet so we could dance, and the days were bright red, and every time we kissed there was another apple to slice into pieces. Look at the light through the windowpane. That means it's noon, that means we're inconsolable. Tell me how all this, and love too, will ruin us. These our bodies, possessed by light. Tell me we'll never get used to it. ~ Richard Siken
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Richard Siken
A rumor is a social cancer: it is difficult to contain and it rots the brains of the masses. However, the real danger is that so many people find rumors enjoyable. That part causes the infection. And in such cases when a rumor is only partially made of truth, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly where the information may have gone wrong. It is passed on and on until some brave soul questions its validity; that brave soul refuses to bite the apple and let the apple eat him. Forced to start from scratch for the sake of purity and truth, that brave soul, figuratively speaking, fully amputates the information in order to protect his personal judgment. In other words, his ignorance is to be valued more than the lie believed to be true. ~ Criss Jami
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Criss Jami
If an innovative piece of software comes along, Microsoft copies it and makes it part of Windows. This is not innovation; this is the end of innovation. ~ Larry Ellison
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Larry Ellison
Who shows a child, just as they are? Who sets it
in its constellation, and gives the measure
of distance into its hand? Who makes a child's death
out of grey bread, that hardens, - or leaves it
inside its round mouth like the core
of a shining apple? Killers are
easy to grasp. But this: death,
the whole of death, before life,
to hold it so softly, and not live in anger,
cannot be expressed. ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Rainer Maria Rilke
One argument against open systems is that they become open to everything, good and bad. Like a Richard Meier skyscraper, the anal retentive, Bauhaus elegance of the Mac does prevent the loose ends and confusion of a less sterile environment. But it also prevents fertility. Apple's development must come from within. ~ Douglas Rushkoff
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Douglas Rushkoff
Isn't he beautiful? Hadley says longingly.
Yes, I think, but not in the way she obviously sees him. He's beautiful in the way the apple in the banned book my father read to me ages ago was beautiful to the princess.
Tempting but deadly. ~ Trisha Wolfe
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Trisha Wolfe
Finally Jobs proposed Apple Computer. "I was on one of my fruitarian diets," he explained. "I had just come back from the apple farm. It sounded fun, spirited, and not intimidating. Apple took the edge off the word 'computer.' Plus, it would get us ahead of Atari in the phone book ~ Steve Jobs
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Steve Jobs
Dressed in black pants, a white button-down, and a leather jacket, he was sophisticated but cool. A man about town, a globetrotter, a secret cat whisperer who would sell his soul for an apple pie. And he was mine. ~ Alice Clayton
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Alice Clayton
I like fruit baskets because it gives you the ability to mail someone a piece of fruit without appearing insane. Like, if someone just mailed you an apple you'd be like, 'huh? What the hell is this?' But if it's in a fruit basket you're like, 'this is nice!' ~ Demetri Martin
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Demetri Martin
There are times when you may feel your life has been crumpled,
crushed, stomped on, or even torn in pieces. Your value and
worth is not determined by what has happened to you, but rather
by the value placed upon you by the one who governs your life
(the one who created you in His image and likeness). The one
who sees you as wonderfully and fearfully made.
....
A $100 dollar bill can be crumpled, crushed, stomped on or even
torn -- it is still is worth $100. The value of the $100 dollar bill is
not determined by what happened to it. To the government it will
still spend as a $100; its value has not changed even if the state of
its condition has. Even crumpled, it could be pressed out, crushed
it could be pressed and smoothed out, or stomped on and torn, it
could be taped back together and still be worth $100 in value.

What may have happened to you in life does not define who you
are. You are the apple of God's eye. You are His prize possession
and treasure. You must see yourself as a person of worth and
value. ~ Jennifer Johnson
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Jennifer Johnson
You insinuated yourself into my heart like a worm into an apple, and I am consumed by you. ~ Seanan McGuire
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Seanan McGuire
Well Microsoft really does develop some really interesting technology. ~ Miguel De Icaza
Apple Vs Microsoft quotes by Miguel De Icaza
Finch kept his house militarily spotless, but books tended to pile up wherever he sat down, and because it was his habit to sit down anywhere he got ready, there were small stacks of books in odd places about the house that were a constant curse to his cleaning woman. He would not let her touch them, and he insisted on apple-pie neatness, so the poor creature was obliged to vacuum, dust, and polish around them. One unfortunate maid lost her head and lost his place in Tuckwell's Pre-Tractarian Oxford, and Dr. Finch shook a broom at her. ~ Harper Lee
