Antique art has come down to us in a fragmentary condition, and we have virtuously adapted our taste to this necessity. Almost all our favorite specimens of Greek sculpture, from the sixth century onward, were originally parts of compositions, and if we were faced with the complete group in which the Charioteer of Delphi was once a subsidiary figure, we might well experience a moment of revulsion. We have come to think of the fragment as more vivid, more concentrated, and more authentic. ~ Kenneth Clark
Antiques quotes by Kenneth Clark
My mom used to take me to antique shows, which I hated because everything was so dusty and old and there were all these weird ladies selling their antiques. We call them "eclectic" now. But it was really amazing that I was exposed to that when I was younger. Now that I have my own taste, I understand it more. ~ Jason Wu
Antiques quotes by Jason Wu
The 19th century became the age of the museum. Objects were scrambled for, specimens seized, and friezes and antiques grasped. ~ Kate Williams
Antiques quotes by Kate Williams
Only uncomfortable chairs become antiques - the comfortable ones are worn out by hard use. ~ Jacob Braude
Antiques quotes by Jacob Braude
Well let's face it, who on earth besides antique dealers and gay couples actually still give dinner parties? ~ Nigel Slater
Antiques quotes by Nigel Slater
I jog at the Rose Bowl, and I collect antique and vintage furniture, so I'm there every few weeks for the flea market. ~ Theo Rossi
Antiques quotes by Theo Rossi
The mother was convinced that the purchase of this piece of furniture would facilitate the bond she so hungered for with Gabriela, although she hated the unnerving history associated with the paravent. But, she thought, what could it possibly do to a child? ~ Laura Gentile
Antiques quotes by Laura Gentile
Deuce glanced at him before turning his attention back to Zane and Julian. "Dare I ask what you've done to deserve protective custody?" he asked Julian. "I deal antiques," Julian answered in a soft voice. Deuce nodded, looking Julian up and down. He turned his head to look at Ty speculatively. "That's a euphemism for 'I kill things', isn't it? ~ Abigail Roux
Antiques quotes by Abigail Roux
Growing old is God's privilege to you ... you only can be compared to any antique and old wine ... antiques are expensive and old wines taste best ... above all, it beats the alternative
DYING YOUNG. So cheer up and be grateful that God is giving you that privilege. ~ Peekey
Antiques quotes by Peekey
She [Bernice] didn't like anything that had an adult theme, with only one exception, her collection of erotic female memorabilia. They were all antiques, fragments of other women's sexuality that was somehow easier to deal with than her own. ~ K. Ford K.
Antiques quotes by K. Ford K.
intent was honest, he really did want to help and he did have a lot of knowledge about antiques since he'd been running his family pawn shop for almost a decade. She knew they could trust him and she filed the information away for later in case they got desperate for money. ~ Leighann Dobbs
Antiques quotes by Leighann Dobbs
These valuable thing produced in us a feeling of intimidation. We knew that no matter how far we got in life, we would never really be meant for such fineness, that the few expensive antiques we did have had fallen to us from a higher life and now condescended to live among us. ~ Nicole Krauss
Antiques quotes by Nicole Krauss
Antiques and Oriental rugs tell people that my mother may be a dog breeder who dropped out of Bryn Mawr, but she's got power - because she's got money. ~ E. Lockhart
Antiques quotes by E. Lockhart
You could become internationally famous - you're Gemini, and according to antique authority have a literary talent, which of course your letters prove. ~ Ted Hughes
Antiques quotes by Ted Hughes
The woods of Arcady are dead,
And over it their antique joy;
Of old the world on dreaming fed;
Gray Truth is now her painted toy. ~ W.B.Yeats
Antiques quotes by W.B.Yeats
Fear resides in all things, and the heart of fear is the unexpected. Do not frighten your opponent with what is right before their eyes."
The Book of Five Rings, The Fire Chapter

Consider yourself lightly; consider the world deeply.
Do not ever think in acquisitive terms.
Do not regret things about your personal life.
Do not envy another's good or evil.
Do not lament parting on any road whatsoever.
Do not complain or feel bitterly about yourself or others.
Have no heart for approaching the path of love.
Do not have preferences.
Do not harbor hopes for your own personal home.
Do not have a liking for delicious food for yourself.
Do not carry antiques handed down from generation to generation.
Do not fast so that it affects your physically.
While it's different with the military equipment, do not be fond of material things.
While on the Way, do not begrudge death.
Do not be intent on possessing valuables or a fief in old age.
Respect the gods and Buddhas, but do not depend on them.
Though you give up your life, do not give up your honor.
Never depart from the Way.

Shinmen Musashi
Twelfth day of the fifth month, Second Year of Shoho, 1645 ~ Shinmen Musashi
Antiques quotes by Shinmen Musashi
The risks in antiques fraud are relative. Other criminals risk the absolute. You've never heard of a fraudster involved in a shoot-out, of the "Come and get me, copper!" sort. Or of some con artist needing helicopter gunships to bring him. No, we subtle-mongers do it with the smile, the promise, the hint. And we have one great ally: greed. And make no mistake. Greed is everywhere, like weather. ~ Jonathan Gash
Antiques quotes by Jonathan Gash
Affluence isn't affluence at all. Hong Kong is the benchmark; everybody else's affluence is mere tat. Until you've experienced that perfume-washed air as polarized glass doors embrace you into a luxury hotel's plush interior, you've only had a dud replica of the real thing. ~ Jonathan Gash
Antiques quotes by Jonathan Gash
The problem: If you've an antique for sale, then, sad to relate, the world isn't your oyster. It's not that easy. Even if somebody gives you the National Gallery, your options are still very, very limited. Okay, you can sell the Old Masters, set up a trust, buy your favorite brewery. But that's strictly it. You're limited by honesty on one hand and law - that hobble of sanity - on the other. ~ Jonathan Gash
Antiques quotes by Jonathan Gash
(Antique clocks) need servicing just like your automobile or anything else. They're mechanical, and about every 10 years you should have them cleaned. That's the way they last forever. ~ William Baldwin
Antiques quotes by William Baldwin
I love hats! I collect vintage ones - I find them at antique shops in Kansas. ~ Lindsey Wixson
Antiques quotes by Lindsey Wixson
Harvard (across the river in Cambridge) and Boston are two ends of one mustache ... Without the faculty, the visitors, the events that Harvard brings to the life here, Boston would be intolerable to anyone except genealogists, antique dealers, and those who find repletion in a closed local society. ~ Elizabeth Hardwick
Antiques quotes by Elizabeth Hardwick
Antiques to Die For sets the gold standard for the classic contemporary cozy. Agatha-finalist Jane K. Cleland's writing is top-notch; her plotting and pace smooth and assured. This antiquing series is in mint condition! ~ Julia Spencer-Fleming
Antiques quotes by Julia Spencer-Fleming
I love history ... everything is inspired by history, so that's why I love vintage and antiques. ~ Kelly Wearstler
Antiques quotes by Kelly Wearstler
You have to fight against being an antique. ~ Burt Lancaster
Antiques quotes by Burt Lancaster
This is precisely the reason for the dissatisfaction of some, who end up sad - sad priests - in some sense becoming collectors of antiques or novelties, instead of being shepherds living with 'the odor of the sheep.' This I ask you: Be shepherds, with the 'odor of the sheep,' make it real, as shepherds among your flock, fishers of men. ~ Pope Francis
Antiques quotes by Pope Francis
The spicy sweet fragrance of the large full blooms, which rambled over the side and top of an arched metal framework, welcomed them as they walked beneath them. Shafts of sunlight pierced the canopy, dust motes floating languorously in the golden beams that spotlighted clumps of wayward snowdrops growing in the lawn. ~ Ellen Read
Antiques quotes by Ellen Read
Whenever you see me, I'm on antique quaaludes. ~ Tina Fey
Antiques quotes by Tina Fey
When I was a teenager in New York, I was buying antique clothes. I still am. ~ Barbra Streisand
Antiques quotes by Barbra Streisand
I still like my antique clothes. ~ Barbra Streisand
Antiques quotes by Barbra Streisand
The door opened to reveal a room with walls consisting mostly of inset mahogany bookcases covered by leaded glass doors. Intricate plasterwork adorned the ceiling in a flowered medallion style that matched the thick Aubusson carpet on the floor.
"Are all of these books for sale?" Amanda asked in a hushed voice, feeling as if she had entered a king's treasure room.
Fretwell nodded. "You'll find everything from antiques to zoology. We have a wide selection of antique maps and celestial charts, original folios and manuscripts..." He gestured around them, as if the extensive rows of books were self-explanatory.
"I would love to lock myself in here for a week," she said impulsively. ~ Lisa Kleypas
Antiques quotes by Lisa Kleypas
I decorated my house like a medieval gothic castle, European-style. Chandeliers and red velvet curtains. My bedroom is pink and black, my bathroom is totally Hello Kitty, I have a massive pink couch and a big antique gold cross. ~ Avril Lavigne
Antiques quotes by Avril Lavigne
Back when I was restoring art and antiques, finding ivory was very difficult because it's illegal, and the only difference between bone and ivory is that bone is free and not illegal. ~ Dan Phillips
Antiques quotes by Dan Phillips
We're just like the antiques. We grow old and get scarred and beat up along the way, and the only question becomes whether we're going to make it until we realize what we already have is valuable." --Faith Bass Darling's Last Garage Sale ~ Lynda Rutledge
Antiques quotes by Lynda Rutledge
Remember that the most valuable antiques are dear old friends. ~ H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
Antiques quotes by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
The Astors and the Vanderbilts, their pleasure domes and money: she was sick of it. Sick of envying, sick of herself. She didn't understand antiques or architecture, she couldn't draw like Sylvia, she didn't read like Ted, she had few interests and no expertise. A paucity for love was the only true thing she'd ever had. ~ Jonathan Franzen
Antiques quotes by Jonathan Franzen
When you're visiting an antiques fair, turn left once you've passed through the entrance. Everyone else will turn right, which means you can get to the bargains before them. ~ Judith Miller
Antiques quotes by Judith Miller
I collect antiques. Why? Because they're beautiful. ~ Broderick Crawford
Antiques quotes by Broderick Crawford
It doesn't take money to have style, it just takes a really good eye. Sometimes you can find amazing culinary antiques that will make it feel like an old French kitchen. ~ Tyler Florence
Antiques quotes by Tyler Florence
The book of Job is pure Arab poetry of the highest and most antique cast. ~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Antiques quotes by Samuel Taylor Coleridge
I quite like antiques. I like things that are old and the history they bring with them. I would rather fly to Morocco on an $800 ticket and buy a chair for $300 than spend $1,100 on one at Pottery Barn. ~ Walton Goggins
Antiques quotes by Walton Goggins
Forgery, being the weirdest form of creativity there is, like antiques, costs lives. Why is it that antiques demand sacrificial victims? Dunno, but if they don't get enough, forgery does. You want proof? Here it is: Once a faker's found out, he dies. Truly. It always happens. ~ Jonathan Gash
Antiques quotes by Jonathan Gash
The pieces didn't really coordinate and could be described in no other way than 'eclectic', but once labeled 'eclectic', valuable mismatches generally become fantastically stylish. Very similar to the way adding cash value to 'crazy' results in a whimsical 'eccentric'; you have to buy more flattering adjectives. ~ Mandy Ashcraft
Antiques quotes by Mandy Ashcraft
Everything I commission - whether it is for me or for a client's home or for a hotel or office - is absolutely unique to that job. I have everything made, or I find vintage and antique pieces at markets and auctions. ~ Kelly Wearstler
Antiques quotes by Kelly Wearstler
A precious, mouldering pleasure 't is
To meet an antique book,
In just the dress his century wore;
A privilege, I think. ~ Emily Dickinson
Antiques quotes by Emily Dickinson
The items people own reveal something about the owners. Every quaint item that a person selects to surround themselves with has a basic quiddity, the essence, or inherent nature of things. As a people, we assign a value meaning not only to the things that we presently possess, but also to the items destined for one generation to hand down to the next generation. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Antiques quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
Freedom is not just something with which we are born; it is something we achieve. America did not receive a perpetual endowment of freedom; it has had to struggle and fight to preserve it. Freedom is not an heirloom or an antique; it is a life that must fight against the corrosive powers of death and nourish itself on the daily bread of goodness and virtue. ~ Fulton J. Sheen
Antiques quotes by Fulton J. Sheen
My mom decorated with lots of antiques. I never liked it when I was a little girl - I wanted to live in a modern house. But now I love it. ~ Paris Hilton
Antiques quotes by Paris Hilton
We find in biking the fullfilment of an antique instinct: vagabondage ~ Maurice Barres
Antiques quotes by Maurice Barres
A marriage of opposites - modern elements with antique pieces - highlights both their individuality and compatibility. ~ Nancy Price
Antiques quotes by Nancy Price
Dad told me, 'Mommy doesn't need antidepressants, you see. She needs flowers and sometimes she needs antiques. ~ Katherine Taylor
Antiques quotes by Katherine Taylor
She loved old things. The brown-brick place was a survivor of the 1907 earthquake and fire, and proudly bore a plaque from the historical society. The building had a haunted history- it was the site of a crime of passion- but Tess didn't mind. She'd never been superstitious.
The apartment was filled with items she'd collected through the years, simply because she liked them or was intrigued by them. There was a balance between heirloom and kitsch. The common thread seemed to be that each object had a story, like a pottery jug with a bas-relief love story told in pictures, in which she'd found a note reading, "Long may we run. -Gilbert." Or the antique clock on the living room wall, each of its carved figures modeled after one of the clockmaker's twelve children. She favored the unusual, so long as it appeared to have been treasured by someone, once upon a time. Her mail spilled from an antique box containing a pigeon-racing counter with a brass plate engraved from a father to a son. She hung her huge handbag on a wrought iron finial from a town library that had burned and been rebuilt in a matter of weeks by an entire community.
Other people's treasures captivated her. They always had, steeped in hidden history, bearing the nicks and gouges and fingerprints of previous owners. She'd probably developed the affinity from spending so much of her childhood in her grandmother's antique shop. ~ Susan Wiggs
Antiques quotes by Susan Wiggs
Thou fool! Nature alone is antique, and the oldest art a mushroom; that idle crag thou sittest on is six thousand years of age. ~ Thomas Carlyle
Antiques quotes by Thomas Carlyle
Photos always seem to exist as sort of stuffy, unnecessary antiques that we put in a drawer - unless we take them out, put them in current dialogue, and give them relevance. ~ Mark Klett
Antiques quotes by Mark Klett
She's a hypnotist collector; you are a walking antique ... ~ Bob Dylan
Antiques quotes by Bob Dylan
Laughing, the same way a wife might laugh at her husband who always brings home the strangest items from a local antiques market. ~ Cassandra Clare
Antiques quotes by Cassandra Clare
By nature, an auction is kind of a wholesale beast anyway. You're buying second hand goods, even with the historical, antique or aesthetic value. You look to get the wholesale price and you hope for retail spikes periodically when you get two or three people in the audience that want the same thing. ~ Paul Brown
Antiques quotes by Paul Brown
Books were everywhere in their large apartment. Histories, biographies, novels, studies on Quebec antiques, poetry. Placed in orderly bookcases. Just about every table had at least one book on it, and oftern several magazines. And the weekend newspapers were scattered on the coffee table in the living room, in front of the fireplace. If a visitor was the observant type, and made it further into the apartment to Gamache's study, he might see the story the books in there told. ~ Louise Penny
Antiques quotes by Louise Penny
I wear a lot of different jewelry. I love to look for it when I'm abroad or if I find a great antique or vintage shop. ~ Lily Donaldson
Antiques quotes by Lily Donaldson
Dreamt I stood in a china shop so crowded from floor to far-off ceiling with shelves of porcelain antiques, etc. that moving a muscle would cause several to fall and smash to bits. Exactly what happened but instead of a crashing noise, an august chord rang out, half cello, half celeste, D major (?), held for four beats. My wrist knocked a Ming vase affair off its pedestal-E flat. Whole string section, glorious, transcendant, angels wept. Deliberately now, smashed a figurine of an ox for the next note, then a milkmaid, then Saturday's Child-orgy of shrapnel filled the air, divine harmonies my head. ~ David Mitchell
Antiques quotes by David Mitchell
I have money. I have properties I didn't buy, cars and carpets, antiques and jewels-and none of them means a damn to me if I don't have her. So-give me a number. ~ Emma Chase
Antiques quotes by Emma Chase
Going by Dr. Marriott's description, Zoe imagined it to be small and elegant as she peered into dozens of shelves, rummaging through the contents. There were globes and charts and atlases, pocket watches and hand-painted Indian silk, gold-plated cutlery, litter coffers of spice, inlaid combs, silver fasteners, trinket boxes, blown-glass figurines, turn-of-the-century postcards with foreign stamps, and portraits of Victorian authors in elaborate frames. But nowhere did she discover a stone of any kind, with or without runes. ~ Christine Brodien-Jones
Antiques quotes by Christine Brodien-Jones
It's my job to know what's available from every retailer, catalog, website, antiques mall, and craftsperson. A good designer or decorator has to have an almost encyclopedic knowledge. ~ Nate Berkus
Antiques quotes by Nate Berkus
Buying land is not like buying antique. It is not the only deal available. ~ Li Ka-shing
Antiques quotes by Li Ka-shing
I am a secularist in the Gandhian sense of the word, not the Nehruvian one. Nehru thought religion was an antique superstition which stood in the way of rational modern politics. I side with Gandhi, who wanted religious figures out of politics but also was suspicious of purely rational politics. ~ Pankaj Mishra
Antiques quotes by Pankaj Mishra
I think the reason I love 'Antiques Roadshow' is that it is sort of like the lottery. There's the chance a regular Joe could walk in with anything and come out close to a millionaire. There's the thrill of the find. ~ Lara Spencer
Antiques quotes by Lara Spencer
Vintage books, old china, antiques; maybe I love old things so much because I feel impermanent myself. ~ Josh Lanyon
Antiques quotes by Josh Lanyon
I think Bergman's films have eternal relevance, because they deal with the difficulty of personal relationships and lack of communication between people and religious aspirations and mortality, existential themes that will be relevant a thousand years from now. When many of the things that are successful and trendy today will have been long relegated to musty-looking antiques, his stuff will still be great. ~ Woody Allen
Antiques quotes by Woody Allen
Although it's just as likely to be a son," Carla says. I've missed some earlier part of her speech, and I don't know what she's talking about. "You're lucky you have a daughter. They say sons steal from their old mothers. It was in a report I saw on the news." "But I do have a son," I say. "Millions of pounds, stolen every year." "I don't have millions of pounds," I say. "And all kinds of antiques. Georgian, Victorian." "I don't have any antiques, either." Oh, this is no good. What sort of a conversation ~ Emma Healey
Antiques quotes by Emma Healey
When I was a little girl, I watched all old movies. My mother liked old movies, and she loved shopping for antiques, so I was around old things all the time. ~ Dita Von Teese
Antiques quotes by Dita Von Teese
A house with old furniture has no need of ghosts to be haunted. ~ Hope Mirrlees
Antiques quotes by Hope Mirrlees
Even when she had to make some one a present of the kind called 'useful,' when she had to give an armchair or some table-silver or a walking-stick, she would choose 'antiques,' as though their long desuetude had effaced from them any semblance of utility and fitted them rather to instruct us in the lives of the men of other days than to serve the common requirements of our own. ~ Marcel Proust
Antiques quotes by Marcel Proust
Swirls of antique stained glass, blazes of brass, forests of carved wood and waterfalls of crystal combine to make up the city's most fabulously festive interior. ~ Mimi Sheraton
Antiques quotes by Mimi Sheraton
What I enjoy doing more than anything is, I have my little antique car collection, and when the weather is pretty I like to get out one of my old cars. I have a little route I run down in the country, down Nachez Trace Parkway. The loop down through there is just really relaxing, not much traffic. ~ Alan Jackson
Antiques quotes by Alan Jackson
Far from the truth lay the antique assumption that man had fathered the weapon. The weapon, instead, had fathered man. ~ Robert Ardrey
Antiques quotes by Robert Ardrey
trust is a fragile thing, like a fine piece of rare china on display in an antiques shop. Once it's broken, the pieces never quite fit - no matter how carefully you try to glue them together. ~ Laura Markovitch
Antiques quotes by Laura Markovitch
I've always been homeschooled, so doing it on set is kind of the same thing. My mom makes it very interactive - we'll get a book on chocolate and learn how to make it, or she will buy antique items. I love military history, the mechanics and strategy of it. ~ Atticus Shaffer
Antiques quotes by Atticus Shaffer
In 1990, I was in 'The Three Sisters' at the Royal Court and won the Clarence Derwent award for my supporting role as Natasha - the prize was £100. I could have paid the gas bill, but I ended up buying a porcelain and silver Bavarian coffee set in an antiques shop in Penzance. ~ Lesley Manville
Antiques quotes by Lesley Manville
I love old architecture. I love collecting furniture, mixing really earthy things with the very polished. I don't come from an interiors background, so I'm not an expert. I just enjoy going to antiques shows and finding interesting things. ~ Jason Wu
Antiques quotes by Jason Wu
The Mologai. The sun shines less in the Mologai, but heat gathers there in the shade and smoke. Steep cramped dwellings, shops oldish. Oddly, smoke pervading the whole area. The streets cling to contours. You clamber up steps from one narrow alleyway to the next, among the stalls. It's an antique hunter's paradise - or rather purgatory, because the promise of heaven takes time to realize. ~ Jonathan Gash
Antiques quotes by Jonathan Gash
I'm a walking advertisement for PBS and for the Discovery Channel. All of my DVR settings are pretty much set to record anything that's on the Discovery Channel. I'm a big fan of 'MythBusters' and 'Deadliest Catch,' and I'm constantly watching 'Moyers & Company' and the 'NewsHour' and 'Antiques Roadshow.' ~ Thomas Sadoski
Antiques quotes by Thomas Sadoski
Fraud is the daughter of greed. ~ Jonathan Gash
Antiques quotes by Jonathan Gash
On a spring day in 1988…a Massachusetts man who collected books about local history was rummaging through a bin in a New Hampshire antiques barn when something caught his eye. Beneath texts on fertilizers and farm machines lay a slim, worn pamphlet with tea-colored paper covers, titled Tamerlane and Other Poems, by an unnamed author identified simply as "a Bostonian." He was fairly certain he had found something exceptional, paid the $15 price, and headed home, where Tamerlane would spend only one night. The next day, he contacted Sotheby's, and they confirmed his suspicion that he had just made one of the most exciting book discoveries in years. The pamphlet was a copy of Edgar Allan Poe's first text, written when he was only fourteen years old, a find that fortune-seeking collectors have imagined happening upon probably more than they'd like to admit. The humble-looking, forty-page pamphlet was published in 1827 by Calvin F.S. Thomas, a relatively unknown Boston printer who specialized in apothecary labels, and its original price was about twelve cents. But this copy, looking good for its 161 years, most of which were probably spent languishing in one dusty attic box after another, would soon be auctioned for a staggering $198,000. ~ Allison Hoover Bartlett
Antiques quotes by Allison Hoover Bartlett
I'd think it strange that the boardinghouse attracted both him and me, but that's what cheap places do
draw in people with no money. An apartment of my own was unthinkable at that time of my life, and even if I'd found an affordable one it wouldn't have satisfied my fundamental need to live in a communal past, or what I imagined the past to be like: a world full of antiques. ~ David Sedaris
Antiques quotes by David Sedaris
But let my due feet never fail To walk the studious cloisters pale, And love the high embowed roof, With antique pillars massy proof, And storied windows richly dight; Casting a dim religious light. ~ John Milton
Antiques quotes by John Milton
We may talk of saving antique linens, species, or languages; but whatever we are intent on saving, when a restoration succeeds, we rescue ourselves. ~ Howard Mansfield
Antiques quotes by Howard Mansfield
The United States is already antique. ~ Huey Newton
Antiques quotes by Huey Newton
The antiques in the window were especially cute, wrestling with each other and playfully snapping at each other's tails. ~ Joseph Fink
Antiques quotes by Joseph Fink
Every inch of space was used. As the road narrowed, signs receded upwards and changed to the vertical. Businesses simply soared from ground level and hung out vaster, more fascinatingly illuminated shingles than competitors. We were still in a traffic tangle, but now the road curved. Shops crowded the pavements and became homelier. Vegetables, spices, grocery produce in boxes or hanging from shop lintels, meats adangle - as always, my ultimate ghastliness - and here and there among the crowds the alarming spectacle of an armed Sikh, shotgun aslant, casually sitting at a bank entrance. And markets everywhere. To the right, cramped streets sloped down to the harbor. To the left, as we meandered along the tramlines through sudden dense markets of hawkers' barrows, the streets turned abruptly into flights of steps careering upwards into a bluish mist of domestic smoke, clouds of washing on poles, and climbing. Hong Kong had the knack of building where others wouldn't dare. ~ Jonathan Gash
Antiques quotes by Jonathan Gash
I collect traditional Aubusson tapestries that you can hang on a wall. The last lot I bought were from an antiques fair in London. ~ Bonnie Tyler
Antiques quotes by Bonnie Tyler
Time meant nothing.
She loved him in an instant.
She would love him forever. ~ Ellen Read
Antiques quotes by Ellen Read
I like old cars, old watches, anything with a vintage, antique kind of a feel to it. I'm just more in tune with that than anything else. ~ David Boreanaz
Antiques quotes by David Boreanaz
The Metropolitan Museum of Art claims to be the largest in the western hemisphere. It's right, but I'm not too sure about the arts bit. Don't misunderstand me. It's got tons of genuine art. It's also got tons of stuff that is hard to classify. I can't come to grips with a massive cube with a grandiose title. I allow that it's art, but not my sort. I need the big stone block to tell me something about the bloke whose name's on the caption, and it doesn't. That off my chest, I admit that any place with 3.3 million works of art truly is a wonder. ~ Jonathan Gash
Antiques quotes by Jonathan Gash
I had already done a lot of research for Rough Riders, keeping notebooks and old photographs. Some of the books were antiques for that time period, with the covers falling off. ~ Tom Berenger
Antiques quotes by Tom Berenger
Is it wrong, wanting to be at home with your record collection? It's not like collecting records is like collecting stamps, or beermats, or antique thimbles. There's a whole world in here, a nicer, dirtier, more violent, more peaceful, more colorful, sleazier, more dangerous, more loving world than the world I live in; there is history, and geography, and poetry, and countless other things I should have studied at school, including music. ~ Nick Hornby
Antiques quotes by Nick Hornby
They went to university because someone, at a time when universities seemed important, said that in order to rise in the world, you had to have a degree. And thus the world was deprived of some excellent gardeners, bakers, antique dealers, sculptors, and writers. ~ Paulo Coelho
Antiques quotes by Paulo Coelho
Marcelian Piaffus adored the heirloom's macabre biography, she could tell. Strangely enough, he had a disregard for its severity despite his beliefs, especially in the hands of a child, and even though Estefania had always been aware that darkness could latch itself onto objects, having grown up among unspeakable atrocities, she decided her daughter had too much grit to decline into madness. ~ Laura Gentile
Antiques quotes by Laura Gentile
An American in London ... cannot but be impressed and charmed by the city. The momumentality of Washington, the thriving business of New York, the antique intimacy of Boston, plus a certain spacious and open feeling reminiscent of Denver and San Francisco-all these he finds combined for his pleasure. ~ John Updike
Antiques quotes by John Updike
When I did my first price guide in 1979, publications weren't interested in mentioning it. Now I get phone calls weekly if not daily from publications and television shows who want to know what's hot, how to get started in antiques, and the best way to buy antiques. ~ Judith Miller
Antiques quotes by Judith Miller
Antique things have an appreciation and worth. Something can be old, but it can be timeless; therefore, it becomes an antique. If this antique is preserved and deemed precious, it could be passed down as a family heirloom. ~ CeeLo Green
