I do have a place in my heart for animal shelters because the job they have is impossible - so many animals that need to euthanized because don't have homes for them. ~ Kevin Nealon
Animal Shelters quotes by Kevin Nealon
Adopt and rescue a pet from a local shelter. Support local and no-kill animal shelters. Plant a tree to honor someone you love. Be a developer - put up some birdhouses. Buy live, potted Christmas trees and replant them. Make sure you spend time with your animals each day. Save natural resources by recycling and buying recycled products. Drink tap water, or filter your own water at home. Whenever possible, limit your use of or do not use pesticides. If you eat seafood, make sustainable choices. Support your local farmers market. Get outside. Visit a park, volunteer, walk your dog, or ride your bike. ~ Atlantic Publishing Group Inc.
Animal Shelters quotes by Atlantic Publishing Group Inc.
I am a pet person. My dog actually lives in Georgia now. But I work with animal trainers and pets quite often. I also volunteer at different places like animal shelters. It's good to be around pets. They kind of put things into perspective. They're easygoing, loyal, and they seem to get it, even when humans don't. ~ Alyson Stoner
Animal Shelters quotes by Alyson Stoner
We're cleaning cat ears.

Rhonda doesn't require us to come in on Sundays, but somebody has to feed the animals. Yesterday Alex and I helped five cats and two dogs find homes...We agreed we probably could have placed a couple more cats if their ears were nice and pink inside like in the wet-food commercials. We told Rhonda to take a much-deserved break today and we'd come in, feed everybody, and make our cats a little more like the ones on TV.

So I skipped church to clean cat ears. ~ Mindy McGinnis
Animal Shelters quotes by Mindy McGinnis
(Sebastian) "See, there you go. You're always looking at me like that."
"Like what?"
"Like I burn down animal shelters for fun and light my cigarettes with orphans. ~ Cassandra Clare
Animal Shelters quotes by Cassandra Clare
Andy once clipped a magazine article about how black dogs are always the last to be adopted at shelters and, therefore, more likely to be put down. Which is totally Dog Racism, if you ask me. ~ Stephanie Perkins
Animal Shelters quotes by Stephanie Perkins
Spaying is a compromise in terms of reverence for life, but perhaps a necessary one in a society which kills millions of dogs and cats a year in "animal shelters". ~ James Marcus
Animal Shelters quotes by James Marcus
Like everything else, holiday gifts escalate. The presents get better and better until one year you decide you don't need anything else and start making donations to animal shelters. Even if you hate dogs and cats, they're somehow always the ones who benefit. ~ David Sedaris
Animal Shelters quotes by David Sedaris
Listen, said Beverly. Let me tell you something. There is no Very Friendly Animal Center. That cat is long gone. ~ Kate DiCamillo
Animal Shelters quotes by Kate DiCamillo
When animals make a stupid mistake, you laugh at them. A cat misjudges a leap. A dog looks overly quizzical about a simple object. These are funny things. But when a person doesn't understand something, if they miscalculate and hit the brakes too late, blame is assigned. They are stupid. They are wrong. Teachers and cops are there to sort it out, with a trail of paperwork to illustrate the stupidity. The faults. The evidence and incidents of these things. We have entire systems in place to help decide who is what. Sometimes the systems don't work. Families spend their weekend afternoons at animal shelters, even when they're not looking for a pet. They come to see the unwanted and unloved. The cats and dogs who don't understand why they are these things. They are petted and combed, walked and fed, cooed over and kissed. Then they go back in their cages and sometimes tears are shed. Fuzzy faces peering through bars can be unbearable for many. Change the face to a human one and the reaction changes. The reason why is because people should know better. But our logic is skewed in this respect. A dog that bites is a dead dog. First day at the shelter and I already saw one put to sleep, which in itself is a misleading phrase. Sleep implies that you have the option of waking up. Once their bodies pass unconsciousness to something deeper where systems start to fail, they revolt a little bit, put up a fight on a molecular level. They kick. They cry. They don't want to go. And this happ ~ Mindy McGinnis
Animal Shelters quotes by Mindy McGinnis
Learning about factory farms and their horrendous treatment of animals is what made me become vegetarian in the first place. I also support the education of the public on adopting pets from animal shelters or saving homeless animals off the street in lieu of buying them from pet shops. ~ Laura Mennell
Animal Shelters quotes by Laura Mennell
That's the problem with them fables, they're putting animals together that wouldn't meet. I don't know where a scorpion is knockin' around with a frog. ~ Karl Pilkington
Animal Shelters quotes by Karl Pilkington
How else do I describe what I see…what I feel? When I look at a plant, I do not see a green object. I see Life. I see energy. I see a will to exist like no other. When I see an animal, I see more than fur and bone and blood. I see Love. Love is all around us. And in us. And through us. Love is us. It is everywhere. I see it. I feel it. I hear it. I only wish all of you could, too. If you could experience what I do every moment of every day, there would be no anger, no hate, no killing. I want to share what I know with the entire universe, but my words fall on deaf ears. People go right on fighting and hating and killing. And there is nothing I can do. ~ Simon Skiles
Animal Shelters quotes by Simon Skiles
THE CREEK AND THE STARS

Spirit is so mixed with the visible world that giver,
gift, and beneficiary are

one thing. You are the grace raining down; the grace is you. Creation is

a clear, flat, fast-moving creek, where qualities reflect.
Generations rush by, while

the stars stay still without a splash. When you lose your appetite for food, you'll

be given other nourishment. There's well-being that is not bodily and beings

that live on fragrance. Don't worry about losing animal energy. Go the way of love

and ask provisions. Love more the star region reflected, less the moving medium. ~ Rumi
Animal Shelters quotes by Rumi
Animals are unpredictable things, and so our life is unpredictable. It's a long tale of little triumphs and disasters and you've got to really like it to stick it. ~ James Herriot
Animal Shelters quotes by James Herriot
Hardly a pure science, history is closer to animal husbandry than it is to mathematics in that it involves selective breeding. The principal difference between the husbandryman and the historian is that the former breeds sheep or cows or such and the latter breeds (assumed) facts. The husbandryman uses his skills to enrich the future, the historian uses his to enrich the past. Both are usually up to their ankles in bullshit. ~ Tom Robbins
Animal Shelters quotes by Tom Robbins
I was a weird animal in high school, doing no work and getting straight A's. ~ Ezra Miller
Animal Shelters quotes by Ezra Miller
He stroked me on the head, and I nuzzled into him like a cat. I saw his chest heave, his lungs filling with his accomplishment, our accomplishment. I had never been so attracted to him, or any man, before.
Then he took me by the face and kissed me harder than I've ever been kissed. He kissed me over and over, his lips only loosely aiming for mine. He pulled my lips with the strong pucker of his mouth, then let them snap back. All I could do was give in. That's all I wanted to do.
We made our way to the couch, lips locked. He laid me back so my feet were off the ground and my head hung over the armrest. He massaged my neck hard, digging his fingers alongside my spine. His breathing took on a husky bite, an animal roughness that gave me goose bumps. His hands followed my curves, focusing on my hips and butt. I kicked my leg around and sat on his lap. It wasn't very comfortable, but it'd have to do.
"You are irresistible," he purred, and toyed with the straps of my dress. ~ Jessica Tom
Animal Shelters quotes by Jessica Tom
I like cookies, any cookie you put in front of me - animal cookies, sugar cookies, anything crunchy. ~ Maria Shriver
Animal Shelters quotes by Maria Shriver
Animal testing, including vivisection, only tests the ability of the human being to be inhuman."
-Shenita Etwaroo ~ Shenita Etwaroo
Animal Shelters quotes by Shenita Etwaroo
My ahimsa is my own. I am not able to accept in its entirety the doctrine of non-killing of animals. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Animal Shelters quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
Everything seemed meaningless to me. All of a sudden. My own life, the lives of others, of animals of plants, the whole world. It no longer fitted together. ~ Erlend Loe
Animal Shelters quotes by Erlend Loe
Gilgamesh was called a god and a man; Enkidu was an animal and a man. It is the story of their becoming human together. ~ Herbert Mason
Animal Shelters quotes by Herbert Mason
He clasps the crag with crooked hands; Close to the sun in lonely lands, Ringed with the azure world, he stands. The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls; He watches from his mountain walls, And like a thunderbolt he falls. ~ Alfred The Great
Animal Shelters quotes by Alfred The Great
Beauty walks this world. It ages everything.
I am far and I am an animal and I am just another I-am poem,
          a we-see poem, a they-love poem.
The green. All the different windows.
There is so much stone here. And grass. So beautiful each
          translucent electric blade.
And the noise. Cheers folding into traffic. These things.
Things that have been already said many times:
leaf, zipper, sparrow, lintel, scarf, window shade. ~ Peter Gizzi
Animal Shelters quotes by Peter Gizzi
I'd expected to see yellow eyes, like a dog;
instead, I realised as I stared back,
that they weren't animal eyes...
They were human eyes! ~ Angel McGregor
Animal Shelters quotes by Angel McGregor
In all the Kalahari Desert, only six true hunters remained. The renegades agreed to let Louis hang around, an offer he took to the extreme; once installed, Louis acted like an unemployed in-law, basically squatting with the Bushmen for the next four years ... He learned to keep his campfire burning and tent zipped even on the most sweltering nights, since packs of hyenas were known to drag people from open shelters and tear out their throats. He leaned that if you stumble upon an angry lioness and her cubs, you stand tall and make her back down, but in the same situation with a rhino, you run like hell. (p. 234) Know why people run marathons? he said ... Because running is rooted in our collective imagination, and our imagination is rooted in running. Language, art, science; space shuttles ... intravascular surgery, they all had their roots in our ability to run. Running was the superpower that made us human- which means it's a superpower all humans possess. (p. 239) ~ Christopher McDougall
Animal Shelters quotes by Christopher McDougall
Ignorance is a kind of insanity in the human animal. ~ Akira Kurosawa
Animal Shelters quotes by Akira Kurosawa
I open my eyes. Yech, boyfriend thoughts, the kind I haven't had since I was a teenager. It's one thing to imagine Shane naked and slathered in olive oil, but another animal entirely to picture us cuddling. ~ Jeri Smith-Ready
Animal Shelters quotes by Jeri Smith-Ready
The stag is nowhere to be seen, and Flora reaches up to flick her wet hair out of her eyes, her chest heaving as she scans the landscape.
Then she says, "You know what? It's actually unicorns who are our national animal, not stags. Just remembered."
Teeth chattering, I glare at her. "Well, maybe one will turn up. ~ Rachel Hawkins
Animal Shelters quotes by Rachel Hawkins
Men are having sex with animals and we wonder why the animals attack us. And I'll tell you why: it's cuz of that one sick man, and it's up to me and a half-mexican to stop him. ~ Dave Attell
Animal Shelters quotes by Dave Attell
Writing is a form of herding. I herd words into little paragraph-like clusters. ~ Larry McMurtry
Animal Shelters quotes by Larry McMurtry
I felt like an animal, and animals don't know sin, do they? ~ Jess C. Scott
Animal Shelters quotes by Jess C. Scott
I relaxed. "I would imagine in your world, girls are much different than here in the real world. I'm sure if you spent some time with the everyday girl, you would find I am not unique."
He grinned at me. "The everyday girl is who writes me fan mail and buys out my concerts. They are the girls who yell my name and run after me like crazed animals. You've not even tried to sneak into my room and squirt your perfume on my pillow. ~ Abbi Glines
Animal Shelters quotes by Abbi Glines
Proponents of the "we're all one race," swill took another hit recently when scientists revealed that bananas share about 50% of the DNA of humans (I kid you not). This is 10% more than what we share with earthworms. Add this information to the previous revelation that humans and chimps are 98.4% the same genetically, and you begin to see the problem for the we're all one race crowd - our present ignorant flat worlders. The reason this is a hit for the all one race crackpots is because it is just a further indication that nature works with minor changes to make major differences. In fact, there are no "tiny" changes in nature at the DNA level of existence. Just a minor change here or there makes a totally different animal or plant. ~ H. Millard
Animal Shelters quotes by H. Millard
I reasoned that God, while improbable, might exist, in which case he should be worshipped; whereas Humanity, being a mere biological idea and signifying nothing more than the animal species we belong to, was no more deserving of worship than any other animal species. ~ Anonymous
Animal Shelters quotes by Anonymous
Man is a make-believe animal: he is never so truly himself as when he is acting a part. ~ William Hazlitt
Animal Shelters quotes by William Hazlitt
And in my books it is my desire to tell of the lives of the wild things which I know as they are actually lived. It is not my desire to humanize them. If we are to love wild animals so much that we do not want to kill them we MUST KNOW THEM AS THEY ACTUALLY LIVE. And in their lives, in the facts of their lives, there is so much of real and honest romance and tragedy, so much that makes them akin to ourselves that the animal biographer need not step aside from the paths of actuality to hold one's interest. ~ James Oliver Curwood
Animal Shelters quotes by James Oliver Curwood
Man is a rational animal who always loses his temper when called upon to act in accordance with the dictates of reason. ~ Orson Welles
Animal Shelters quotes by Orson Welles
Human care (of animals) is simply sentimental, sympathetic patronage. ~ Wayne Pacelle
Animal Shelters quotes by Wayne Pacelle
A fly with a brain the size of a salt grain has the behavioral repertoire nearly as complex as a much larger animal such as a mouse. That's a super-interesting problem from an engineering perspective. ~ Michael Dickinson
Animal Shelters quotes by Michael Dickinson
Black vomit came gushing out Samantha's mouth, adding to the puddle already on the floor. Samantha was covered in a sheen of sweat, crouched on all fours on the wooden hallway floor, like an animal. Her thick yellow fingernails made deep scratches in the wood as her body convulsed with each new expulsion of the black vomit. Her hair was long and thick and full; thicker and fuller than he had ever seen it. It reminded him of a lion's mane. Her skin was a sickly pale grey with disturbing red boils the size of grapefruit and weeping puss-filled black blotches where others had burst. Spider webs of blue veins were visible under the skin all over her body. ~ Joseph M. Chiron
Animal Shelters quotes by Joseph M. Chiron
Ati sarvatra varjayet:
Excess of anything is bad. Some of us are attracted to Good. But the universe tries to maintain balance. So what is good for some may end up being bad for others ...
Agriculture is good for us humans as it gives us an assured supply of food, but it is bad for the animals that lose their forest and grazing land. ~ Amish Tripathi
Animal Shelters quotes by Amish Tripathi
What a strange thing it is to recognize a sound like the shriek of a wounded animal, when you've never heard the shriek of a wounded animal. ~ John L'Heureux
Animal Shelters quotes by John L'Heureux
In justifying cruelty to animals we put ourselves also on the animal level. We choose the jungle and must abide by our choice. ~ C.S. Lewis
Animal Shelters quotes by C.S. Lewis
As she chattered and laughed and cast quick glances into the house and the yard, her eyes fell on a stranger, standing alone in the hall, staring at her in a cool impertinent way that brought her up sharply with a mingled feeling of feminine pleasure that she had attracted a man and an embarrassed sensation that her dress was too low in the bosom. He looked quite old, at least thirty-five. He was a tall man and powerfully built. Scarlett thought she had never seen such a man with such wide shoulders, so heavy with muscles, almost too heavy for gentility. When her eye caught his, he smiled, showing animal-white teeth below a close-clipped black mustache. He was dark of face, swarthy as a pirate, and his eyes were as bold and black as any pirate's appraising a galleon to be scuttled or a maiden to be ravished. There was a cool recklessness in his face and a cynical humor in his mouth as he smiled at her, and Scarlett caught her breath. She felt that she should be insulted by such a look as was annoyed with herself because she did not feel insulted. She did not know who he could be, but there was undeniably a look of good blood in his dark face. It showed in the thin hawk nose over the full red lips, and high forehead and the wide-set eyes. ~ Margaret Mitchell
Animal Shelters quotes by Margaret Mitchell
Deerstalking would be a very fine sport if only the deer had guns. ~ W.S. Gilbert
Animal Shelters quotes by W.S. Gilbert
At no point did the [Burns] committee conclude, or even attempt to conclude, an assessment of cruelty. Yet many bodies have erroneously quoted the Burns report, stating that it clearly demonstrated that the practice of hunting wild animals with dogs caused cruelty. The report did not state that. ~ Lawson Soulsby, Baron Soulsby Of Swaffham Prior
Animal Shelters quotes by Lawson Soulsby, Baron Soulsby Of Swaffham Prior
I too took the plunge - the vow to observe brahmacharya for life. I must confess that I had not then fully realized the magnitude and immensity of the task I undertook. The difficulties are even today staring me in the face. The importance of the vow is being more and more borne in upon me. Life without brahmacharya appears to me to be insipid and animal-like. The brute by nature knows no self-restraint. Man is man because he is capable of, and only in so far as he exercises, self-restraint. What formerly appeared to me to be extravagant praise of brahmacharya in our religious books seems now, with increasing clearness every day, to be absolutely proper and founded on experience. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Animal Shelters quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
If your skin is crawling, pay attention. If something doesn't feel right, pay attention. If the hairs on the back of your neck prickle, if your gut clenches up, if a wave of wrongness washes over you, if your heart starts beating faster, pay, pay, pay attention. Do not second-guess yourself or rationalize anything that impedes your safety. Our instincts are the animal inside of our humanness, warning us of danger. ~ Inga Muscio
Animal Shelters quotes by Inga Muscio
As a human being on Earth, you can't imagine friendship not being important in some other solar system or some other planet, or some other context of beings that are conscious. We even see it in animals. It is important for people on Earth to reach out or reach into someone. ~ Steve Martin
Animal Shelters quotes by Steve Martin
The anti-human, the merely animal, consists in staying within the sphere of feeling, and being able to communicate only at that level". (1807, § 69). ~ Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel
Animal Shelters quotes by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel
A notorious inability to express emotions makes human beings the only animals capable of suicide. ~ Alain De Botton
Animal Shelters quotes by Alain De Botton
In every country in the world, killing human beings is condemned. The Buddhist precept of non-killing extends even further, to include all living beings. ~ Nhat Hanh
Animal Shelters quotes by Nhat Hanh
There seems to be at least one common denominator to all intelligent life: it was bipedal and bimannual. Four legs was the most practical number for any animal on any planet, and it seems that nature has nothing else to work with. When she decided to give intelligence to a species, she taught him to stand on his hind legs, freeing his forefeet to become tools of his intellect. And she usually taught him by making him use his hands to climb. As a Cophian biologist had said, Life first tries to climb a tree to get to the stars. When it fails, it comes down and invents the high-C drive. ~ Walter M. Miller Jr.
Animal Shelters quotes by Walter M. Miller Jr.
Man is the only animal who causes pain to others with no other object than wanting to do so. ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
