It seems too simplistic that just repeating a persuasive message should increase its effect, but that's exactly what psychological research finds (again and again). Repetition is one of the easiest and most widespread methods of persuasion. In fact it's so obvious that we sometimes forget how powerful it is. ~ Jeremy Bean
Alternative Facts quotes by Jeremy Bean
Surely if Alternative Facts are untrue they should be called Ficts? ~ Alan Dapre
Alternative Facts quotes by Alan Dapre

When the mistakes fall disproportionately on one side, it is no respect for the notion of truth to pretend that everything is even. ~ Lee McIntyre
Alternative Facts quotes by Lee McIntyre
Question the Thought "Failure is Just for Losers"

A failure-related thinking error that anxious perfectionists sometimes make is thinking that failure is just for losers. If you have this thinking bias, try this thought experiment:
Experiment: Think of a highly successful person you admire. It can be anyone, from Oprah to someone you actually know.
What failures has this person experienced in areas where he or she is generally successful? Has a businessperson you admire made some bad investments? Has your favorite actor made a movie that lost money? Has your favorite musician had an album flop?
You may be able to think of examples and failures off the top of your head, or you may need to do some online research or read a biography of that person. Make sure the examples are relevant to the person's core domain of success. A superstar chef opening a restaurant and failing is more relevant than an actor opening a restaurant and failing.
After you've done the thought experiment, ask yourself, "What's an alternative thought that's more realistic and less harsh than 'Failure is just for losers'?"
Alternate option: Ask mentors (people you actually know) about examples of their failures. Ask them what they learned from the experiences. You could also ask your mentors for examples of failures that have happened to prominent people in your field. They might be more willing to volunteer this information than to talk about their own failures. ~ Alice Boyes
Alternative Facts quotes by Alice Boyes
When I first went on Britain's Got Talent I was famous for my cheap suit, my wonky teeth and the fact that I sold mobile phones for a living. ~ Paul Potts
Alternative Facts quotes by Paul Potts
And as for Martha-I never understood when I was at Ault why she liked me as much as I liked her. Even now, I'm still not sure. I couldn't give back half of what she gave me, and that fact should have knocked off the balance between us, but it didn't, and I don't know why not....But she had liked me before I became likable; that was the confusing part....Martha was the closest friend I'd ever had; I was, as always, preoccupied by the present moment; and I was too young then to understand how simple facts of geography and time can separate people. ~ Curtis Sittenfield
Alternative Facts quotes by Curtis Sittenfield
The major credit I think Jim and I deserve is for selecting the right problem and sticking to it. It's true that by blundering about we stumbled on gold, but the fact remains that we were looking for gold. ~ Francis Crick
Alternative Facts quotes by Francis Crick
Sometimes it's easier to block out our feelings toward someone because the alternative is to feel the pain. ~ Angela Peach
Alternative Facts quotes by Angela Peach
The answers to the world's perplexities are, in fact, found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ ... The more we can bring others to see the gospel in action, the more they will be willing to at least tolerate us, then to encourage us, and eventually to cooperate with us. ~ Truman G. Madsen
Alternative Facts quotes by Truman G. Madsen
Though experience be our only guide in reasoning concerning matters of fact; it must be acknowledged, that this guide is not altogether infallible, but in some cases is apt to lead us into errors. ~ David Hume
Alternative Facts quotes by David Hume
God is basic Fact. He must not be thought of as a featureless generality. He is the most concrete thing there is. ~ C.S. Lewis
Alternative Facts quotes by C.S. Lewis
Research on the human brain has shown it is predisposed to think in the terms of a story.36 This predisposition is continuously reinforced and strengthened throughout the life of your brain. Imaging studies have shown only a small, quarter-sized region of your brain lights up when someone tells you a series of facts. However, when someone tells you a story laced with those facts, or those facts in action, your entire brain lights up. Not only can you program your mind with a story - you can program someone else's mind. ~ Isaiah Hankel
Alternative Facts quotes by Isaiah Hankel
originally is like a little empty attic, and you have to stock it with such furniture as you choose. A fool takes in all the lumber of every sort that he comes across, so that the knowledge which might be useful to him gets crowded out, or at best is jumbled up with a lot of other things, so that he has a difficulty in laying his hands upon it. Now the skilful workman is very careful indeed as to what he takes into his brain-attic. He will have nothing but the tools which may help him in doing his work, but of these he has a large assortment, and all in the most perfect order. It is a mistake to think that that little room has elastic walls and can distend to any extent. Depend upon it there comes a time when for every addition of knowledge you forget something that you knew before. It is of the highest importance, therefore, not to have useless facts elbowing out the useful ones." "But the Solar System!" I protested. "What the deuce is it to me?" he interrupted impatiently: "you ~ Arthur Conan Doyle
Alternative Facts quotes by Arthur Conan Doyle
Ideas - and where facts were scarce, directive questions. Other ~ David Quammen
Alternative Facts quotes by David Quammen
I like to point out that people very often confuse the idea that truth is subjective with the fact that truth is perishable. ~ Errol Morris
Alternative Facts quotes by Errol Morris
We have to recognize that however smart we are, we're not smarter than everyone else combined ... We can't lose sight of the fact that no matter how important our own contributions are, we couldn't have gotten anywhere without the help and hard work of lots of other people. ~ James M. Kouzes
Alternative Facts quotes by James M. Kouzes
One of the things that did intrigue me about when I read the pilot - because I had not read the books before doing the show - was the mystery aspect of it. I didn't feel that it was just a crime-based story. It really does have that mystery element, and it felt like a throwback to other shows in the past that had a bit more of that. There was something iconic about it. The fact that it's set in Boston gave it a feeling that was different to me. So, I am definitely more of a fan of mysteries than I am of a circular crime-based genre. ~ Sasha Alexander
Alternative Facts quotes by Sasha Alexander
Within 18 months of my parents' marriage in 1900, my mother fell in love with an Englishman who would have described himself as a gentleman but who was, in fact, nothing more than a devious adventurer. ~ Paul Mellon
Alternative Facts quotes by Paul Mellon
Many think of memory as rote learning, a linear stuffing of the brain with facts, where understanding is irrelevant. When you teach it properly, with imagination and association, understanding becomes a part of it. ~ Tony Buzan
Alternative Facts quotes by Tony Buzan
Here the term 'language-game' is meant to bring into prominence the fact that the speaking of language is part of an activity, of a form of life. ~ Ludwig Wittgenstein
Alternative Facts quotes by Ludwig Wittgenstein
Then Alan looked thoughtful and seemed reluctant to speak, perhaps because he had just written the sequel to the Star Wars novelization that Lucas had sold to Ballantine Books, but in his reserved and gentlemanly fashion he told the audience of a day when he had seen a rough cut of the film and had remarked on just this scientific illiteracy to Lucas. He had even suggested a workable alternative ... no, two workable alternatives ... and Lucas had said words to the effect of (approximate quote), "There's a lot of money tied up in this film and people expect to hear a boom when something blows up, so I'll give them the boom." And at that moment, the cynicism showed through. ~ Harlan Ellison
Alternative Facts quotes by Harlan Ellison
Due to the fact that I experienced personally the situation of a political prisoner, I have an historical commitment to all those that were or are prisoners just because they expressed their views, their public opinion, their own opinions. ~ Dilma Rousseff
Alternative Facts quotes by Dilma Rousseff
Now, it's a fact well known to those who know it well that prophets of doom only attain popularity when they get the drinks in all around. ~ Robert Rankin
Alternative Facts quotes by Robert Rankin
Consequently, I get inspiration from all over the place. But it's not like a calculated thing on my part, or a way that I see myself. I'm just interested in things that move me, and I don't care where they come from. In fact, I'm interested if they come from a place I wouldn't expect, or would seem foreign to me on some level. ~ Jim Jarmusch
Alternative Facts quotes by Jim Jarmusch
Science ask facts and religion ask faith, humans are confused between life and death. ~ Santosh Kalwar
Alternative Facts quotes by Santosh Kalwar
Jesus' claims are particularly unnerving, because if they are true there is no alternative but to bow the knee to him. ~ Timothy Keller
Alternative Facts quotes by Timothy Keller
This is what it
means to create: not to make something out of nothing, but to make order out of chaos. A creative scientist or historian does not make
up facts but orders facts; he sees connections between them rather than seeing them as random data. A creative writer does not
make up new words but arranges familiar words in patterns which say something fresh to us. ~ Harold S. Kushner
Alternative Facts quotes by Harold S. Kushner
The fourth paradigm forces us at every point to discern between the creationally valid and the sinfully perverse and thus confronts us with a never-ending task which requires not only competence but also spiritual discernment. Yet this is precisely the task which we must assume, even at the risk of being vague on specifics. The alternative is to compromise basic themes of authentic Christianity. ~ Albert M. Wolters
Alternative Facts quotes by Albert M. Wolters
The facts of life are conservative. ~ Margaret Thatcher
Alternative Facts quotes by Margaret Thatcher
If you want to write something completely unique, you will probably fail or at best write something without redeeming value. The mind works in certain patterns: the mind organizes facts in story form; it is your commonality with that body of human thought that makes a good book, not its estrangement from the common values that humans share. ~ Janet Morris
Alternative Facts quotes by Janet Morris
I was glad that our venerable, almost formless religions, drained of all intransigence and purged of savage rites, linked us mysteriously to the most ancient secrets of man and of earth, not forbidding us, however, a secular explanation of facts and a rational view of human conduct. ~ Marguerite Yourcenar
Alternative Facts quotes by Marguerite Yourcenar
The most frustrated and most stymied it is the fact that the United States of America is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient common-sense, gun-safety laws. Even in the face of repeated mass killings. ~ Barack Obama
Alternative Facts quotes by Barack Obama
The essential business of language is to assert or deny facts. Given ~ Ludwig Wittgenstein
Alternative Facts quotes by Ludwig Wittgenstein
It is difficult to accept death in this society because it is unfamiliar. In spite of the fact that it happens all the time, we never see it. ~ Elisabeth Kubler Ross
Alternative Facts quotes by Elisabeth Kubler Ross
Facts are of not much use, considered as facts. They bewilder by their number and their apparent incoherency. Let them be digested into theory, however, and brought into mutual harmony, and it is another matter. ~ Oliver Heaviside
Alternative Facts quotes by Oliver Heaviside
In my mind, learning to fly was a very logical alternative. I honestly saw no other way to free myself from this torture other than to fly just like the birds did; the birds were completely free"
 ~ Veronika Gasparyan
Alternative Facts quotes by Veronika Gasparyan
Well, with facts what's important is their weight and accuracy. Warmth is secondary. ~ Haruki Murakami
Alternative Facts quotes by Haruki Murakami
The political arena leaves one no alternative, one must either be a dunce or a rogue. ~ Emma Goldman
Alternative Facts quotes by Emma Goldman
It is not, in fact, cookery books that we need half so much as cooks really trained to a knowledge of their duties. ~ Eliza Acton
Alternative Facts quotes by Eliza Acton
But, today, the idea of faith returns to me. Faith defies logic and propels us beyond hope because it is not attached to our desires. Faith is the centerpiece of a connected life. It allows us to live by the grace of invisible strands. It is a belief in a wisdom superior to our own. Faith becomes a teacher in the absence of fact. ~ Terry Tempest Williams
Alternative Facts quotes by Terry Tempest Williams
Adult stem cells have shown great potential and have effectively helped patients. Another alternative is cord-blood stem cells. These are a neglected resource that could be used to treat a diverse body of people. ~ Jim Ryun
Alternative Facts quotes by Jim Ryun
There's only one side with me. You get the right side. You get the correct version of the facts. ~ Kevin O'Leary
