The treasure secretly gathered in your heart will become evident through your creative work. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
I've been strongly influenced, in technique as well as subject matter, by some of the early 20th-century book illustrators - Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac in particular, Burne-Jones and other Pre-Raphaelites, and the Arts-&-Crafts movement they engendered. I'm continually inspired by Rembrandt, Breughel (I've wondered whether his brilliant "Tower of Babel" had inspired Tolkien's description of Minas Tyrith), Hieronymous Bosch, Albrecht Durer, and Turner; it's not necessarily that they influence my work in any particular direction, more that their example raises my spirits, re-affirms my belief in the power of images to move and delight us, and shows me how much further I have to go, how much is possible. Having visited Venice and Florence for the first time, I am besotted with the Italian Renaissance artists - Botticelli, Bellini, da Vinci and others. Their work is calm, controlled, and yet each face and landscape contains such passion. In Botticelli's paintings, every pebble and every leaf is rendered with a religious devotion; there is reverence inherent in paying such close attention to every stone, turning painting itself into a form of worship, an act of prayer. ~ Alan Lee (artist)
Albrecht Durer quotes by Alan Lee (artist)
The other evening, in that cafe-cabaret in the Rue de la Fontaine, where I had run aground with Tramsel and Jocard, who had taken me there to see that supposedly-fashionable singer... how could they fail to see that she was nothing but a corpse?

Yes, beneath the sumptuous and heavy ballgown, which swaddled her and held her upright like a sentry-box of pink velvet trimmed and embroidered with gold - a coffin befitting the queen of Spain - there was a corpse! But the others, amused by her wan voice and her emaciated frame, found her quaint - more than that, quite 'droll'...

Droll! that drab, soft and inconsistent epithet that everyone uses nowadays! The woman had, to be sure, a tiny carven head, and a kind of macabre prettiness within the furry heap of her opera-cloak. They studied her minutely, interested by the romance of her story: a petite bourgeoise thrown into the high life following the fad which had caught her up - and neither of them, nor anyone else besides in the whole of that room, had perceived what was immediately evident to my eyes. Placed flat on the white satin of her dress, the two hands of that singer were the two hands of a skeleton: two sets of knuckle-bones gloved in white suede. They might have been drawn by Albrecht
Durer: the ten fingers of an evil dead woman, fitted at the ends of the two overlong and excessively thin arms of a mannequin...

And while that room convulsed with laughter and thrilled with pleasure, g ~ Jean Lorrain
Albrecht Durer quotes by Jean Lorrain
Love and delight are better teachers than compulsion. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
Sight is the noblest sense of man. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
Help us to recognize your voice, help us not to be allured by the madness of the world, so that we may never fall away from you, O Lord Jesus Christ. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
The artist is chosen by God to fulfill his commands and must never be overwhelmed by public opinion. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
Geometry is the foundation of all painting. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
He that would be a painter must have a natural turn thereto. Love and delight therein are better of the Art of Painting than compulsion. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
Nature holds the beautiful, for the artist who has the insight to extract it. Thus, beauty lies even in humble, perhaps ugly things, and the ideal, which bypasses or improves on nature, may not be truly beautiful in the end. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
My father suffered much and toiled painfully all his life, for he had no resources other than the proceeds of his trade from which to support himself and his wife and family. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
If a man devotes himself to art, much evil is avoided that happens otherwise if one is idle. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
An artist of understanding and experience can show more of his great power and art in small things roughly and rudely done, than many another in a great work. A man may often draw something with his pen on a half sheet of paper in one day ... and it shall be fuller of art and better than another's great work whereon he hath spent a whole year's careful labor. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
There is no man on earth who can give a final judgment on what the most beautiful shape may be. Only God knows. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
What beauty is, I know not, though it adheres to many things. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
Truly, art is embedded in nature; he who can extract it, has it. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
Art is embedded in nature and they who can extract it, have it. ~ Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Durer
In an organization of any significant size, the executives cannot create the future single-handedly. They must develop the enterprise in a constellation of teams within the overall team if they hope to bring the special talents and resources to bear on the challenge of creating superior customer value and sustaining a competitive advantage in the eyes of its customers. ~ Karl Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Karl Albrecht
That din of applause was currently manifest in a mediated form online. "Inside those cubes of the virtual," thought Albrecht, "is a vaulting collection of hungry ids. All they require is discipline. ~ Kane X. Faucher
Albrecht Durer quotes by Kane X. Faucher
A decade ago, Australian philosopher and professor of sustainability Glenn Albrecht set out to coin a term to capture the particular form of psychological distress that set in when the homelands that we love and from which we take comfort are radically altered by extraction and industrialization, rendering them alienating and unfamiliar. He settled on 'solastalgia,' with it's evocations of solace, destruction, and pain, and defined the new word to mean, 'the homesickness you have when you are still at home. ~ Naomi Klein
Albrecht Durer quotes by Naomi Klein
The Adventures of Pinocchio' and would like to have further knowledge to the origins of this puppet. Can you enlighten us)?" Albrecht smiled and replied in English, "My English is not good, but I will do my best to tell the story of a little boy who told lies. Since our friends (indicating to the rest of us) don't speak German, I will tell the story in English." As Mr. Roser related the story of Pinocchio, my guilty conscious began festering, much like Pinocchio's nose and ears growing longer and longer with each lie. As ~ Young
Albrecht Durer quotes by Young
We are going to need organizations that are culturally equipped to adapt. They must have internal processes that are creative, generative, and productive rather than controlled, confining, and normative. In short, we must UNSHACKLE THE HUMAN BRAIN and exploit its productive potential. ~ Karl Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Karl Albrecht
The expensive ones are for Starz. No. We decided, as part of our Encore strategy, to broaden and strengthen and help focus the Encore plexus by adding original programming. ~ Chris Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Chris Albrecht
Fairy tales for adult readers remained popular throughout Europe well into the 19th century - particularly in Germany, where the Brothers Grimm published their massive collection of German fairy tales (revised and edited to reflect the Brothers' patriotic and patriarchal ideals), providing inpiration for novelists, poets, and playrights among the German Romantics. Recently, fairy tale scholars have re–discovered the enormous body of work produced by women writers associated with the German Romantics: Grisela von Arnim, Sophie Tieck Bernhardi, Karoline von Günderrode, Julie Berger, and Sophie Albrecht, to name just a few. ~ Terri Windling
Albrecht Durer quotes by Terri Windling
Televisions and movies have made many Americans into habitual consumers of synthetic experience-audiovisual fantasies that simply pass the time. ~ Karl Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Karl Albrecht
Dane Cook is one of the most exciting comedy stars to emerge on the scene in many years, and his ability to connect with audiences is truly remarkable. HBO will be able to give this gifted performer the broadest, most unrestricted showcase for his talent, and we're delighted to welcome him to the network. ~ Chris Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Chris Albrecht
Sunday morning dawned bright and cloudless. Ernest awoke early as always. He put on the red "Emporor's robe" and padded softly down the carpeted stairway. The early sunlight lay in pools on the living room floor. He had noticed that the guns were locked up in the basement. But the keys, as he well knew, were on the window ledge above the kitchen sink. He tiptoed down the basement stairs and unlocked the storage room. It smelled as dank as a grave. He chose a double-barreled Boss shotgun with a tight choke. He had used it for years of pigeon shooting. He took some shells from one of the boxes in the storage room, closed and locked the door, and climbed the basement stairs. If he saw the bright day outside, it did not deter him. He crossed the living room to the front foyer, a shrinelike entryway five by seven feet, with oak-paneled walls and a floor of linoleum tile. He had held for years to the maxim: "il faut (d'abord) durer". Now it had been succeeded by another: "il faut (apres tout) mourir". The idea, if not the phrase, filled all his mind. He slipped in two shells, lowered the gun butt carefully to the floor, leaned forward, pressed the twin barrels against his forehead just above the eyebrows, and tripped both triggers. ~ Carlos Baker
Albrecht Durer quotes by Carlos Baker
I've had so many influences and sources of inspiration as an illustrator that it is impossible to name just one. I loved Aubrey Beardsley when I was a student, and then Edmund Dulac and other Golden Age illustrators made a big impact, as well as Victorian painters like Richard Dadd and Edward Burne-Jones. My long-term heroes though are Albretch Durer, Brueghel, Hieronymous Bosch, Jan Van Eyck, Leonardo, Botticelli, Rembrandt, Turner and Degas. What most of them have in common is brilliant draughtsmanship and a strong linear or graphic quality. Most are also printmakers. The one I keep going back to and who fascinates me the most is JMW Turner, the greatest watercolourist. ~ Alan Lee
Albrecht Durer quotes by Alan Lee
In the mini-series area, we are going to have a regular year-round, weekly presence on Encore of classic mini-series and a new mini-series that we are bringing. For the time being, I think the home of mini-series will be on Encore. ~ Chris Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Chris Albrecht
Producing and distributing premium TV entertainment content is more 'global' now than at any point in the history of the business. World Screen does an excellent job in following the news, trends and key players. It's a must-read for those in the business of global TV and brings us that much closer to prospective buyers and distributors of our premium content. ~ Chris Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Chris Albrecht
The only thing that's going to save you is that saving blood of Jesus Christ. ~ Katherine Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Katherine Albrecht
Start out with an ideal and end up with a deal. ~ Karl Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Karl Albrecht
For so long Marianne and Albrecht and many of their friends had known Hitler was a lunatic, a leader whose lowbrow appeal to people's most selfish, self-pitying emotions and ignorance was an embarrassment for their country. ~ Jessica Shattuck
Albrecht Durer quotes by Jessica Shattuck
Do whatever you want in the back room of pharmacies, but keep it away from consumers. ~ Katherine Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Katherine Albrecht
I understand some of the people's impatience with the show last year. I think that Lisa's (Lili Taylor) story line (marrying Nate with minimal motivation in season three) became a little bit of a diversion - and that happens. It happens in every show. ~ Chris Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Chris Albrecht
The more the relationships of the nitrogen-rich substances to the cell nucleus were recognized, the more the question of the arrangement of the nitrogen and carbon atoms in the molecule came to stand out. ~ Albrecht Kossel
Albrecht Durer quotes by Albrecht Kossel
When I look in the mirror, I am slightly reminded of self-portraits by Durer and by Rembrandt, because they both show a degree of introspection. I see some element of disappointment; I see a sense of humour, but also something that is faintly ridiculous; and I see somebody who is frightened of being found out and thought lightweight. ~ Robert Winston
Albrecht Durer quotes by Robert Winston
Throughout my career, I've realized that there are a lot of great opportunities out there to be associated with programming. It may have started elsewhere, as Crimson Petal did in the UK. So, our main strategy for Encore is to go through those types of partnership acquisitions. ~ Chris Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Chris Albrecht
Albert Durer, the famous painter, used to say he had no pleasure in pictures that were painted with many colors, but in those which were painted with a choice simplicity. So it is with me as to sermons. ~ Martin Luther
Albrecht Durer quotes by Martin Luther
Old paradigms die hard, even if they don't work. ~ Karl Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Karl Albrecht
An FBI study many years ago suggested, accurately I believe, that "Officer Friendly" gets killed a lot more times in the field than does "Officer Assertive." I'm paraphrasing here, but the point is, good cops know when to break the right number of eggs to make the omelet. Tactical Perfection seeks to take policing and officer safety back to a level where we know it should be. ~ Steve Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Steve Albrecht
The scripts for Marco Polo are absolutely, positively fantastic. The challenge of making that show in China has proved to be as formidable as we feared. It's not like making a movie in China where, once you load up and you leave, you're gone. We have to be able to come back and capture something that's going to feel like a major feature film, on a television budget, and do it, hopefully season after season, so we are taking more time than the producers thought. ~ Chris Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Chris Albrecht
If the frontline people do count, you couldn't prove it by examining the reward systems in most organizations. ~ Karl Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Karl Albrecht
Executive assistant. "Mrs. Albrecht, how are you today?" "Very well. I just got here and thought maybe I had missed you." "Nope. I just got here too." "Come in, please." The house had a two-story entry area ~ Michael Connelly
Albrecht Durer quotes by Michael Connelly
How do you get the protagonists and antagonists together, in the same space, without somebody having to die? So, we ended up having to tell two distinct stories, which is never the ultimate way to create a great serialized drama. So then, of course, we had the tragedy with Andy [Whitfield], which made everything very difficult and pushed back. ~ Chris Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Chris Albrecht
Albrecht's Law - Intelligent people, when assembled into an organization, will tend toward collective stupidity. ~ Karl Albrecht
Albrecht Durer quotes by Karl Albrecht
Movie people think things are movies, and authors think things should be movies because, up until recently, movies have been the jewel in the crown. But, that seems to be changing. ~ Chris Albrecht
