Have you ever been to an AA meeting? No wonder these people are alcoholics - I've never needed a drink more badly in my life. ~ Chelsea Handler
Aa Meeting quotes by Chelsea Handler
If you're going to drive a Hummer and buy carbon offsets, that's like getting drunk every night and getting into an AA meeting, throwing money in the basket, and leaving. ~ Ed Begley, Jr.
Aa Meeting quotes by Ed Begley, Jr.
Peg came over with dinner tonight and told me about this dumb schmaltzy poem she heard someone read at an AA meeting. It got me thinking. It was about how while we are on earth, our limitations are such that we can only see the underside of the tapestry that God is weaving. God sees the topside, the whole evolving portrait and its amazing beauty, and uses us as the pieces of thread to weave the picture. We see the glorious colors and shadings, but we also see the knots and the threads hanging down, the think lumpy patches, the tangles. But God and the people in heaven with him see how beautiful the portraits in the tapestry are. The poem says in this flowery way that faith is about the willingness to be used by God wherever and however he most needs you, most needs the piece of thread that is your life. You give him your life to put through his needle, to use as he sees fit. ~ Anne Lamott
Aa Meeting quotes by Anne Lamott
It was only my first AA meeting, but I was certain assaulting a fellow alcoholic wasn't one of those Twelve Steps. ~ Christa Allan
Aa Meeting quotes by Christa Allan
I went to one AA meeting and I got asked for an autograph. ~ Marilyn Manson
Aa Meeting quotes by Marilyn Manson
At the end of almost every AA meeting, someone read the Promises. One of these was 'We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it'. Dan thought he would always regret the past, but he had quit trying to shut the door. Why bother, when it would just come open again? The fucking had no latch, let alone a lock. ~ Stephen King
Aa Meeting quotes by Stephen King
During inflation, Goodwill is the gift that keeps on giving. ~ Warren Buffett
Aa Meeting quotes by Warren Buffett
Fear is the darkroom where negatives are developed. ~ Zig Ziglar
Aa Meeting quotes by Zig Ziglar
A typical day in the life of a heavy metal musician consists of a round of golf and an AA meeting. ~ Billy Joel
Aa Meeting quotes by Billy Joel
I see creative-writing classes as some sort of AA meeting. It is more of a support group for people who write than an actual course in which you learn writing skills. This support group is extremely important because there is something very lonely about writing. ~ Etgar Keret
Aa Meeting quotes by Etgar Keret
Coffee, she'd discovered, was tied to all sorts of memories, different for each person. Sunday mornings, friendly get-togethers, a favorite grandfather long since gone, the AA meeting that saved their life. Coffee meant something to people. Most found their lives were miserable without it. Coffee was a lot like love that way. And because Rachel believed in love, she believed in coffee, too. ~ Sarah Addison Allen
Aa Meeting quotes by Sarah Addison Allen
One Saturday in 1984, I walked into my first AA meeting. I went regularly for six years and only stopped when I came to realize my underlying problem was not genuine alcoholism, but depression. ~ Jack Dee
Aa Meeting quotes by Jack Dee
Like most people who decide to get sober, I was brought to Alcoholics Anonymous. While AA certainly works for others, its core propositions felt irreconcilable with my own experiences. I couldn't, for example, rectify the assertion that "alcoholism is a disease" with the facts of my own life.
The idea that by simply attending an AA meeting, without any consultation, one is expected to take on a blanket diagnosis of "diseased addict" was to me, at best, patronizing. At worst, irresponsible. Irresponsible because it doesn't encourage people to turn toward and heal the actual underlying causes of their abuse of substances.
I drank for thirteen years for REALLY good reasons. Among them were unprocessed grief, parental abandonment, isolation, violent trauma, anxiety and panic, social oppression, a general lack of safety, deep existential discord, and a tremendous diet and lifestyle imbalance. None of which constitute a disease, and all of which manifest as profound internal, mental, emotional and physical discomfort, which I sought to escape by taking external substances.
It is only through one's own efforts to turn toward life on its own terms and to develop a wiser relationship to what's there through mindfulness and compassion that make freedom from addictive patterns possible. My sobriety has been sustained by facing life, processing grief, healing family relationships, accepting radically the fact of social oppression, working with my abandonment conditioning, ~ Noah Levine
Aa Meeting quotes by Noah Levine
Nothing disappoints an atheist more than meeting God. ~ Srini Chandra
Aa Meeting quotes by Srini Chandra
There is no Higher Power or any God who is responsible for what I do and for what I have done and for who I am. There is no Higher Power or any God who will cure me. There is no Meeting where any amount of whining, complaining and blaming is going to make me feel any better. ~ James Frey
Aa Meeting quotes by James Frey
...one of the primary differences between alcoholics and nonalcoholics is that nonalcoholics change their behavior to meet their goals and alcoholics change their goals to meet their behaviors. ~ Alcoholics Anonymous
Aa Meeting quotes by Alcoholics Anonymous
The queer reminder in her smile. Like we had a meeting, she and I, at some appointed time and place, and she knew I would forget. ~ Emma Cline
Aa Meeting quotes by Emma Cline
The search began 10 years ago
To find a nasty viscous foe
They searched in caves and underground
But no Bin Laden could be found
The President full of seething
Calls his Generals to a meeting
Have you looked under your noses?
Is the question he proposes
Quick smart a search is under way
A General comes back the same day
Oh president you're the cats pyjamas
You really do have all the answers
Do you know that sneaky toad
Is in a house down the road
Obama calls him a useless bum
(It's time to get that terror scum)
The SEALS are sent to get their man
From a house in Pakistan
But from behind his wifely shield
Osama Bin Laden does not yield
You'll not take me you infidel
The SEAL replies you go to hell
You scum this is for 9-11
Then shoots him dead with his weapon ~ Papa G.
Aa Meeting quotes by Papa G.
How did people have conversations anyway? How did they meet and then begin to talk as if they had known each other for years? ~ Alcoholics Anonymous
Aa Meeting quotes by Alcoholics Anonymous
That night at Dumbarton was a classic of its kind. She had hopes still, I think, of enslaving me despite myself with her charms. And I probably thought the same. We both found we were mistaken. It had its moments; but she has the mind and morals of a jungle cat. She didn't enjoy meeting ... another of the same. ~ Dorothy Dunnett
Aa Meeting quotes by Dorothy Dunnett
On January 3, 1992, a meeting of Russian and American scholars took place in the auditorium of a government building in Moscow. Two weeks earlier the Soviet Union had ceased to exist and the Russian Federation had become an independent country. As a result, the statue of Lenin which previously graced the stage of the auditorium had disappeared and instead the flag of the Russian Federation was now displayed on the front wall. The only problem, one American observed, was that the flag had been hung upside down. ~ Samuel P. Huntington
Aa Meeting quotes by Samuel P. Huntington
We are like some particle in motion always moving and meeting other particle. ~ Santosh Kalwar
Aa Meeting quotes by Santosh Kalwar
Mary never made it to the board meeting. Cunning Elizabeth simply arranged for her cousin's tennis instructor to "delay" her for an hour or two. The man was evidently a superb athlete, though it was entirely Mary's fault that she fell asleep afterwards. Elizabeth took control of the company that very afternoon, by a vote of six to one, while a sated Mary slept. And the silly girl never knew what hit her. ~ Barbara Taylor Bradford
Aa Meeting quotes by Barbara Taylor Bradford
Mission Control will be perfect. When you leave this meeting today you will go to your office and the first thing you will do there is to write -Tough and Competent- on your blackboards. It will never be erased. Each day when you enter the room these words will remind you of the price paid by Grissom, White, and Chaffee. These words are the price of admission to the ranks of Mission Control. ~ Gene Kranz
Aa Meeting quotes by Gene Kranz
Given what the stigmatized individual may well face upon entering a mixed social situation, he may anticipatorily respond by defensive cowering. This may be illustrated from an early study of some German unemployed during the Depression, the words being those of a 43-year-old mason: How hard and humiliating it is to bear the name of an unemployed man. When I go out, I cast down my eyes because I feel myself wholly inferior. When I go along the street, it seems to me that I can't be compared with an average citizen, that everybody is pointing at me with his finger. I instinctively avoid meeting anyone. Former acquaintances and friends of better times are no longer so cordial. They greet me indifferently when we meet. They no longer offer me a cigarette and their eyes seem to say, "You are not worth it, you don't work."37 ~ Erving Goffman
Aa Meeting quotes by Erving Goffman
Delivering freight elsewhere for Pickup. Meeting a Pickup schedule may become questionable, which will assure the future casual ~ Malcolm Newbourne
Aa Meeting quotes by Malcolm Newbourne
Roll-up those sleeves and work until you see the fruit of your labour. It takes Passion, Resolve and a Productive Work Ethic, meeting with Opportunity, for you to succeed. ~ Archibald Marwizi
Aa Meeting quotes by Archibald Marwizi
I remember coming in to the studio and meeting Barry Manilow . I was kind of star-struck. He said, "I want to play you this song." We get to the end of the song and I hear him actually sing my name as part of the lyric. I had to pick my jaw up from the floor! ~ Dave Koz
Aa Meeting quotes by Dave Koz
The larger the space you have to consume, the better the chance of not meeting up with yourself. ~ Michelle I. Brooks
Aa Meeting quotes by Michelle I. Brooks
At the beginning of each week at 'Saturday Night Live,' we have a full cast meeting where Lorne Michaels introduces the upcoming host. ~ Bill Hader
Aa Meeting quotes by Bill Hader
Farewells always come suddenly. Each meeting might be called once-in-a-lifetime. You never know when you'll part, or if you'll ever meet again. All that you can do is spend every second so that there'll be no regrets. If you do that, the time that you've spent together ... will be the greatest gift of all. ~ Minari Endou
Aa Meeting quotes by Minari Endou
Shall we suffer a Pagan to deal and trade with us, and shall we not suffer him to pray unto and worship God? If we allow the Jews to have private houses and dwellings amongst us, why should we not allow them to have synagogues? Is their doctrine more false, their worship more abominable, or is the civil peace more endangered by their meeting in public than in their private houses? But if these things may be granted to Jews and Pagans, surely the condition of any Christians ought not to be worse than theirs in a Christian commonwealth.

You will say, perhaps: "Yes, it ought to be; because they are more inclinable to factions, tumults, and civil wars." I answer: Is this the fault of the Christian religion? If it be so, truly the Christian religion is the worst of all religions and ought neither to be embraced by any particular person, nor tolerated by any commonwealth. For if this be the genius, this the nature of the Christian religion, to be turbulent and destructive to the civil peace, that Church itself which the magistrate indulges will not always be innocent. ~ John Locke
Aa Meeting quotes by John Locke
Orrin Hatch was the keynote speaker at the last meeting of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists. He sought me out because he was a fan. I was thinking he had confused me with someone else. ~ Ted Rall
Aa Meeting quotes by Ted Rall
And then she remembered the stranger. She had met him on an April afternoon. In his presence she had felt feelings that she had never felt before. The stranger had touched the innermost parts of her heart! He had done it by just his words. And his presence had made her feel as if she was in a spell! ~ Avijeet Das
Aa Meeting quotes by Avijeet Das
A conference is a gathering of important people who singly can do nothing, but together can decide that nothing can be done. ~ Fred Allen
Aa Meeting quotes by Fred Allen
Be a hero, Simon," Simon muttered bitterly, remembering the life Magnus Bane had dangled before him in their first meeting - or at least, the first one Simon could remember. "Have an adventure, Simon. How about, turn your life into one long agonizing gym class, Simon."
"Dude, you're talking to yourself again. ~ Cassandra Clare
Aa Meeting quotes by Cassandra Clare
When you look at sort of pop stardom now, some of these singers, it seems like the idea of them was created in a marketing meeting, and then they just found someone to sort of fulfill that role. ~ John Lloyd Young
Aa Meeting quotes by John Lloyd Young
Between giant spiders and meeting Edmund Ellis did I have a chance, Ms Rainn? ~ S.A. Tawks
Aa Meeting quotes by S.A. Tawks
Many situations in your life will re-open what's been shut off or down, forcing you to see what's been left behind and the emotions that come with that. That's natural and necessary for processing and healing. Meeting all of your experiences with resistance keeps you stuck in the past. You live and die with the closing of each chapter. ~ Camille Lucy
Aa Meeting quotes by Camille Lucy
For just a heartbeat I picture the life I could've had if I'd joined a sterile corporate law firm on the partner track. I imagined meeting my clients in paneled wood conference rooms instead of re-purposed storage closets that smell like bleach and pee. I imagine shaking the hand of a client whose hand isn't trembling from meth withdrawal or abject terror at a justice system he doesn't trust. ~ Jodi Picoult
Aa Meeting quotes by Jodi Picoult
Disarmed, defeated but elated,
I knew at once you were the one.
That meeting was, no doubt fated.
You are my own midnight sun. ~ Tatyana K. Varenko
Aa Meeting quotes by Tatyana K. Varenko
New Rule: Just because a country elects a smart president doesn't make it a smart country. A couple of weeks ago, I was asked on CNN if I thought Sarah Palin could get elected president, and I said I hope not, but I wouldn't put anything past this stupid country. Well, the station was flooded with emails, and the twits hit the fan. And you could tell that these people were really mad, because they wrote entirely in CAPITAL LETTERS!!! Worst of all, Bill O'Reilly refuted my contention that this is a stupid country by calling me a pinhead, which (a) proves my point, and (b) is really funny coming from a doody-face like him.

Now, before I go about demonstration how, sadly, easy it is to prove the dumbness that's dragging us down, let me just say that ignorance has life-and-death consequences. On the eve of the Iraq War, seventy percent of Americans thought Saddam Hussein was personally involved in 9/11. Six years later, thirty-four percent still do. Or look at the health-care debate: At a recent town hall meeting in South Carolina, a man stood up and told his congressman to "keep your government hands off my Medicare," which is kind of like driving cross-country to protest highways.

This country is like a college chick after two Long Island iced teas: We can be talked into anything, like wars, and we can be talked out of anything, like health care. We should forget the town halls, and replace them with study halls.

Listen to some of these stats: ~ Bill Maher
Aa Meeting quotes by Bill Maher
It's really nice meeting people after a concert. Still, it's very weird to be at the center of a group of 30 people all listening to what you're saying. When that group turns into 300 people, it goes on from weird. Some people revel in it, and I don't. ~ Robert Smith
Aa Meeting quotes by Robert Smith
At the decisive Boston town meeting of Nov. 29, 1773, while ships loaded with cargo from the East India Company idled in the harbor, Thomas Young was the first and only speaker to propose that the best way to protest the new Tea Act was to dump the tea into the water. ~ Matthew Stewart
Aa Meeting quotes by Matthew Stewart
Little Cinder

Girl, they can't understand you.
You rise from the as-heap in a blaze
and only then do they recognize you
as their one true love.

While you pray beneath your mother's
tree you carrve a phoenix into your palm
wth aa hazel twig and coal;
every night she devours more of you.

You used to believe in angels.
Now you believe in the makeover;
if you can't get the grime off your face
and your foot into a size six heel

who will ever bother to notice you?
The kettle and the broom sear in your grasp,
snap into fragments. The turtledoves sing,
"There's blood within the shoe."

You deserve the palace, you think, as you signal
the pigeons to attack, approve the barrel filled with red-hot nails.
Its great hearth beckons, and the prince's flag
rises crimson in the angry sun.

He will love you for the heat you generate,
for the flames you ignite around you,
though he encase your tiny feet in glass
to keep them from scorching the ground. ~ Jeannine Hall Gailey
Aa Meeting quotes by Jeannine Hall Gailey
I reached our building only to find a wide-eyed Southern belle wearing a Civil Way-era dress blocking the front door. A silk parasol and a full hoopskirt completed her ensemble. I wore something like it to a costume party once, but hers was an original. Frustration was back, and now it was in my way.
In the form of freaking Scarlatt O'Hara.
Sighing, I stuck my hand through her stomach to turn the knob, meeting no resistance. I rolled my eyes as she gasped, fluttered her eyelashes, and disappeared in a puff of air.
You know, Scarlett, Rhett didn't give a dang, and frankly, I don't either. ~ Myra McEntire
Aa Meeting quotes by Myra McEntire
In the movie I was played by an actor who actually looked more like me than the character the author portrayed in the book: I wasn't blond, I wasn't tan, and neither was the actor. I also suddenly became the movie's moral compass, spouting AA jargon, castigating everyone's drug use and trying to save Julian. (I'll sell my car," I warn the actor playing Julian's dealer. "Whatever it takes.") This was slightly less true of Blair's character, played by a girl who actually seemed like she belonged in our group-- jittery, sexually available, easily wounded. Julian became the sentimentalized version of himself, acted by a talented, sad-faced clown, who has an affair with Blair and then realizes he has to let her go because I was his best bud. "Be good to her," Julian tells Clay. "She really deserves it." The sheer hypocrisy of this scene must have made the author blanch. Smiling secretly to myself with perverse satisfaction when the actor delivered that line, I then glanced at Blair in the darkness of the screening room. ~ Bret Easton Ellis
Aa Meeting quotes by Bret Easton Ellis
I am not qualified to deal with this. Why does everyone I meet seem to have mental problems?
Ah ... but did they have mental problems before meeting you? Who's the common denominator here, Dan?
I do not have mental problems! I say to the voice in my head, perfectly aware how damning it would sound were I to say it aloud. ~ Eoin Colfer
Aa Meeting quotes by Eoin Colfer
One of the best ways to [improve my longevity] that is to minimize injury or avoid it by being more flexible-especially when we are meeting at the net. There is a hitter and blocker, which means a lot foot contact, where you can twist your ankle easily. ~ Karch Kiraly
Aa Meeting quotes by Karch Kiraly
One thing we've talked a lot about, even in the first leadership meeting, was, what's the purpose of our leadership team? The framework we came up with is the notion that our purpose is to bring clarity, alignment and intensity. ~ Satya Nadella
Aa Meeting quotes by Satya Nadella
Still, I didn't want to show up for the meeting empty-handed, so that night at my parents' house I holed up in my room, resolving not to come out until I completed my Father Johnson "How Well Do You Know Your Fiancé?" collage. I dug around in the upstairs storage room of my parents' house and grabbed the only old magazines I could find: Vogue. Golf Digest. The Phoebe Cates issue of Seventeen.
Perfect. I was sure to find a wealth of applicable material. ~ Ree Drummond
Aa Meeting quotes by Ree Drummond
Meetings are held because men seek companionship or, at a minimum, wish to escape the tedium of solitary duties. They yearn for the prestige which accrues to the man who presides over meetings, and this leads them to convoke assemblages over which they can preside. Finally, there is the meeting which is called not because there is business to be done, but because it is necessary to create the impression that business is being done. Such meetings are more than a substitute for action. They are widely regarded as action. ~ John Kenneth Galbraith
Aa Meeting quotes by John Kenneth Galbraith
It is human self-renunciation when a man denies himself and the world opens up to him. But it is Christian self-renunciation when he denies himself and, because the world precisely for this
shuts itself up to him, he must as one thrust out by the world seek God's confidence. The double-danger lies precisely in meeting opposition there where he had expected to find support, and
he has to turn about twice; whereas the merely human self-resignation turns once. ~ Soren Kierkegaard
Aa Meeting quotes by Soren Kierkegaard
I have become a pupil of the AA movement rather than the teacher. ~ Bill W.
Aa Meeting quotes by Bill W.
The girls changing in the gym watched her from the other side of the room the first time she went in, and one of the nuns was sitting there as well, just because Stella was there. They took her into a meeting in school and she had to say in advance that she wasn't a lesbian, or they wouldn't have let her even try to use the girls' changing room. They asked her if she was still a Christian. She explained that her family are not religious. They asked her what she knew of damnation. She asked them what they knew of autonomy. They asked her how she knew that word. She asked if they had met her mother. They said they would pray for her. She said it was not necessary. They asked if she might feel different in a few months, or if perhaps she would simply change for gym in the janitor's cupboard. She said she'd felt like this her whole life and no amount of praying was going to change it and she could use the janitor's cupboard to change, but she was a person, not a broom. They said she needed to find Jesus. She asked if it was like finding Wally? Only one nun knew what she meant. That little drawing in those old comic strips her mum had, when you look for the dweeby guy in the stripy hat. ~ Jenni Fagan
